As always the idea is to answer literally everything your opponent does and eventually win with Justice or Tome. Tolarian Terror gives the option of changing up the win conditions in games 2 & 3.The deck suffers from 2 weaknesses as it always loses in one of two ways; getting tempoed out or having the wrong answers at the wrong time. Going Grixis for Lightning Bolt or Skred as well as Pyroblast greatly improves the deck's ability to deal with faster decks (all decks are faster though), especially ones running blue. Skred is superior to Bolt as it simply hits more threats and remains valuable during the entire game, unlike bolt. You simply cannot afford to stare down a Gurmag Angler or a Myr Enforcer or even a Gary with a bolt in your hand.Since we are 3 colors and need something like Maestros Theater for fixing we find ourselves playing 11 shuffle effects, making Brainstorm a viable and really invaluable option. A deck that has to answer every single threat the opponent presents benefits greatly from being able to shuffle away the wrong answers at the right time.
Just deal with everything the opponent plays. Midrange matchups, a lot of affinity variants, slower Terror decks like Izzet Skred and Dimir Control are what you are hoping to play against. Any deck replete with removal will find itself in an extremely uphill battle to win against this. The only way you really lose is if the opponent is able to become the monarch early enough for it to matter.Mono Red, Faeries, ponza, and especially Caw Blade are really tough matchups and the reasons for the sideboard being so straightforward.
