Deck discussion for Créme brûlée recipe

What format is this?

I know right far too many people are just making decks like nuts without putting that kind of forethought into it. If they are leaning for casual say so it eliminates confusion and makes for better recommendations and ideas of commentators. Side Note: for this deck I recommend less one ofs and a 60 card deck.

To run an 84 card deck, at least 30 of those should be lands considering you have an Average Converted Mana Cost of roughly 3.0. At 20 lands, you will consistently miss a lot of land drops.

"To run an 84 card deck..." Im going to stop you right there the only kind of decks that should be more then 60 is a commander deck or some other format that i cant think of at the moment that requires more.

The biggest piece of advice I have for this deck is slim it down to 60 and get a focus. Then build the rest of that deck around that. Get more playsets and by play sets i mean 4 of one card. This deck will have absolutely no consistency as it is. If its casual and you enjoy the randomness and honestly probably losing a lot then i mean stick with it. But there is a reason why good decks have 60 cards and 3 or 4 of most of the cards they play.
Best of luck reformatting this would love to check it out once you have trimmed it down and focused it in a direction you want.

While 60 is the norm, You can run a larger deck if there is reason to. An Affinity deck with lots of Draws for instance. Also if you are aiming for a Battle Of Wits deck. But you are totally right in this case. This deck doesnt have any reason for it to be this large. Honestly i can't really see any kind of theme or Win Condition in it at all. Maybe he is playing against some really new players and big decks keep the game going longer, since nobody has a good Win Condition? Thats really my only guess.

wasnt trying to be harsh. its hard to give advise with a deck without a focus. Decide what you want to do how you want to play or a card thats you like and build around that. Then im happy to help

Well the first question is the biggest one....What are you trying to do with this deck? Whats its main purpose? Protection? Beatdown? Buffs? Flying? as soon as we know the answer, we can start cutting it down and adding in things that will help it in its purpose, whatever that is.

Trying to make it burn, as it said at the top. I'm fairly new to mtg, so is here multiple kinds of burn decks?

Well if you are trying to make it a Burn deck, Then take out everything that isnt either a Burn itself, or helps to speed up the burn. With a burn deck, Time is your enemy. Forget all the multiple burn spells and stick to the standards. Especially one drops. Lava Spike, Shock, Incinerate etc etc. Also Mana fixing helps, I'd advise you to drop in Braid of Fire. Its the most amazing thing for burn ever. Your goal is really cheap burn, and lots of it. Creatures generally just get in the way, Unless you find ones that do damage when they come into/leave play, like Goblin Arsonist. Also a good idea is Talon Of Pain, which will almost double your burn. If you also throw in Curse Of Bloodletting, it really WILL double your damage. If you are moderately sure you can kill quickly, Furnace of Rath will make everyone take double damage for everything. Suddenly Incinerate isnt just 3 damage, its 6 damage and cant be prevented, for One Mountain.

Ill definitely check these out. 2 days ago I ordered koth of the hammer, ajani goldmane, fireball x3, and incinerate. Which should go into the deck? And should I keep the coal stokers for mana?

0

With the Coal Stoakers, Its not going to give you any more mana. What its doing is simply giving you a 3/3 for one red. That can be really usefull if you have some cheap burns in your hand while you play it, but its not a mana source. Braid of Fire is a SERIOUS mana source. Lets say you play it on turn 1, On turn 2 it gives you one red, On turn 3 it gives you two red, turn 4 it gives you 3, and so on. So thats just extra mana that you don't have to work for. And multiply that by having more Braid of Fire....pretty soon you are getting like 20-30 mana per turn and in a burn deck, Thats scary, especially with all your Fireballs.

Ajani should be saved for another deck, but by all means put in your Fireballs and Incinerates. Electrickery combos nice with Inflame. Inflame is only one red, and does 2 damage to each creature already dealt damage this turn. So overload Electrickery, then drop one or two inflames. The damage per price is good, with 4 mana you are dealing 5 damage to each of your opponents creatures.

Drop in some Flame Slashes for creature spot removal. One red for 4 damage to a creature is pretty nice and keeps things manageable. Also theres a card called Circle of Flame. It says that whenever a creature without flying attacks you, it takes 1 damage. That can easily combine with an Inflame or a Shock.

Its all about Card Advantage :)

Braid of Fire doesn't work like that. The mana goes away after each step and phase (so you only have it for your upkeep) and you will only be able to cast a few Instant spells with that mana. Maybe try Seething Song for temporary mana.

Sounds good. I'll prob be buying his with Christmas money, unless I can trade for em or dig em out of the box. Would you mind giving me a list of some things I should cut??

0

First, cut all of your artifacts. You don't need any of those in a burn deck. You don't need Fatal Attraction, Sphere of Safety, or Volcanic Strength either. Creatures shouldn't be in here unless they either burn, draw, give mana, or provide a solid defense. Jace's Archivist is great for a burn deck if you are playing multiplayer, it'll help keep your hand full so you always have spells to play.

Spells shouldn't be in here unless they help you deal damage or mana accellerate.

PS. I don't know if you are playing multiplayer casual, but if you are, then burn is probably the most difficult choice for you to run, because you will not usually be able to deal with all of the players before running out of spells and drawing a lot of focus to yourself.

PS. If you get the time, I'd appreciate it if you dropped a comment on any of my decks too, especially the ones that haven't made 50 likes yet.

These ones are my faves:
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=381598 - Overwhelming stampede deck revolving around a lot of 1 CMC creatures and mana accell into one or two bigger creatures, overwhelming stampede for the finish.
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=382265 - Treefolk tribal, drops treefolk and lands fast, makes them indestructible/deathtouchy/lifegainy/tramply, then wrath the board for the winning swing.
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=381965 - Mono green enchantment deck, play through the entire deck with the help of insane mana and card draw, then swing for the win.
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=404237 - White knight tribal with vigilance/indestructible/double strike/battlecry/hexproof for all knights.
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=397790 - Huggy mill deck for multiplayer, give people tokens, ramp your mana up, draw insane amounts of cards and make your opponents all deck out at teh same time!
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=389327 - An infect deck designed for multiplayer, where infect is typically at a disadvantage.
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=383116 - Elf token Deck that allows for insane lifegain and thousands of damage.
http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=382582 - Elf archers revolving around Greatbow Doyen and some unorthodox and trololy green direct damage. You can't attack or defend against this deck without dying. You can't even sit still without dying. Death is the only option.

Beowulf = Correct.

If you plan on buying singles, Id definitely recommend tcgplayer.com....They have a brilliant card Optimizer so you know you are getting the lowest price possible. Since its for play not collecting, You can select heavily played in addition to the other conditions to make them A LOT cheaper. I always buy my decks from there :)

Braid of fire is i think the single most deadly card you can get in a burn deck. You'll be glad you got it.

And i'd suggest starting with everything White, and all creatures you have with the exception of Scalding Devil, Goblin Arsonist, Guttersnipe, and Maybe the Coal Stokers. Also any Enchantment that doesnt equal more damage to your opponent.

What about malignus and inferno Titan? And does this mean its now a mono red?

0
Posted 22 December 2012 at 02:49

While both Malignus and the Titan are great cards, they are also really expensive. If this works out the way you want, you will kill them before you even get a chance to play something that expensive. You can keep them if you want, but i wouldnt have any more than two each.

And yes, cutting all the White means its a strict Mono Red now. It had so few Whites in it before that it was only really what we call "Rw Burn" Which means Red, with a "splash" of white.

Ok. Added cerebral fire, searing spear, talon of pain x2, and braid of fire x2. Got rid of anything white and replaced white mana with red mana

Now for the creature thinning. Basically anything that doesn't burn goes?

Braid of fire seem pretty useless. The mana goes away at the end of the turn, correct?

0
Posted 23 December 2012 at 02:24

all mana goes away at end of turn.. but you get more of it each turn. Braids is a great ramp card.
you need to get multiples for consistency. For starters, I would suggest running 4 lightning bolts, shocks and searing spear. Id drop all the explosive impacts. In general you are going to want to pick half of the spells you have now and then add multiples.
creature wise id run at least 1 more guttersnipe probably 2 more, add 3 more vexing devil. drop scalding devil. Depending on how many creatures you want then add 3 more goblin arsonist.

spensersportsguy has the right idea. Especially with Guttersnipe. In a deck of a lot of instants, Guttersnipe is the icing on the cake. He just adds more damage to ANY instant you cast. Its Perfect for this deck.

Trying to keep it at 70 cards 28 (40%) mana. And from what I can tell. I get one red mana every turn. The. It disappears. BoF gets an age counter. Now I pay 2 mana for BoF and gain 1 red. Red goes away. I pay 3 for BoF. and so on. What am I missing here?

0
Posted 23 December 2012 at 06:51

No, it doesnt work like that. You "Pay" its cost by adding a Red to your mana pool for each age counter on it.
Play BoF
Next turn it gives you one mana, Next it gives you two, then three then four...it just keeps going.
So yeah it goes away at the end of each turn, but Instants can be played whenever. So basically it gives you a way to toss your instants out without having to pay anything from your lands.

Also, its fine to have all the single copies of each spell, but whats wrong with having like, 4 Incinerates? It makes the deck MUCH more predictable for you.

First of all you have too much many in the deck. The deck should only have 25 mana. Secondly I suggest that you should increase the number of some of the instants and soceries. Get ride of shock and make it a pillar of flame. I would also drop searing spears and add more incinerate. Fists of Anvil don't have too much use since. Only have a few creatures. You can find other ways of getting rid of cards and making adding to the number of one card. A lot of yur instant and soceries are similar and one of the two cards is better.
I think this is my burn deck if not just click on my name http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=413625

First off you should make your own deck good before commenting on other peoples. This still has the same problems as it did in the beginning.
Also why the hell do you have a proxy in a online deck? Simply add the auger.
Im not going to repeat my advice and everyone's advice that you have pretty much ignored while getting excited that your deck is on the front page. Its on the front page because when people like me keep commenting on the deck to help you (idiotically apparently), it adds likes to it. Instead of commenting your deck and tooting your horn maybe actually read the comments do the work and fix your deck.

Your deck is not really good first thing you can do to make it better
Cut electricery
Cut cerebral eruption
Cut all of your x damage spells (devils play etc etc)
Cut chaos imps
Cut talon of pain
Cut braid of fire (puts out mana during your upkeep and can only be spent during your upkeep once you hit your main phase it's gone it's a little complicated but basically only instants can use it)
Cut dual casting it just gets your creature and enchantements blown up when I kill your creature 0 likes
After that use all 4 lightning bolts
For budget decks like this I love goblin arsonist

An the guy above me is right dont use proxies for Internet decks the only exception is if its not in the database

That's what I'm saying, it's not in the database. And I probably won't cut any of those, this is a fun deck I use at home, and won't be anything more :)
