This Red/Black Rakdos deck got me to Mythic tier in MTG Arena in 2020.It's based on the "sacrifice" mechanic and hurts the opponent whenever a sacrifice occurs (on either side). The main card is the Mayhem Devil, which burns any target for 1 damage whenever anything is sacrificed.The synergy in this deck is absolutely, off the wall, insane! It's one of my favourite decks to play as it's so damn powerful![This deck was once standard, but Cauldron's Familiar has since been banned. This deck is what I classify as a "locked standard" deck as I no longer tweak it]
Combo 1: [A wall of defence, 2 dmg to any target and +1 life gain]- Mayhem Devil- Cauldron's familiar- Witch's OvenSacrifice the cat (1st trigger) to the Witch's Oven, and then sacrifice the food Token (2nd trigger) to bring the cat back to the battlefield. The Mayhem Devil see's 2 sacrifice triggers, so you have 2 points of burn to assign anywhere. Use the cat as a blocker during your opponents attack phase, then sacrifice the cat to the Witch's Oven. This makes it very difficult for your opponents creatures to punch through as the cat is constantly blocking, then disappearing and reappearing.Combo 2: [Steal your opponents creatures]- Claim the Firstborn or The Akroan War- Witch's Oven or Priest of the Forgotten Gods or RankleSteal your opponents creatures using either Claim the Firstborn or The Akroan War. Then attack the opponent with their own creature before finally sacrificing their creature to the Witch's Oven or the Priest of the Forgotten Gods or Rankle.Combo 3: [2 mana, opponent sacs 1 creature, draw a card, 3 dmg to any target]- Mayhem Devil- Chandra, Acolyte of Flame- Priest of Forgotten GodsThis 3 card combination is killer as it allows you to (a) create 2 elemental tokens using Chandra's +0 ability, (b) sacrifice them to the priest of forgotten gods which triggers 4 effects: The opponent must sacrifice a creature (b-1) and lose 2 life (b-2). You gain 2 black mana (b-3) and draw a card (b-4) . Finally (c) 3 Sacrifice effects happen so you get 3 points of burn from the Mayhem devil to deal damage anywhere to. This synergy is nuts! Combo 4: [Deathtouch damage]- Mayhem Devil or Dreadhorde Butcher- Call of the Death-DwellerUse the Call of the Death-Dweller sorcery spell to return either the Mayhem Devil or Dreadhorde butcher to the battlefield giving them deathtouch. Any sacrifice triggers from here on in will deal 1 point of deathtouch damage, effectively 1 shotting and killing any of your opponents creatures. The Dreadhorde butcher has a similar "deathtouch on death" trigger in that when he dies, he deals damage to any source. This combination is deadly as it allows you to kill heavy hitters - I'm looking at you stompy green!Combo 5: [Kroxa!]- Tymaret Calls the Dead- Kroxa, Titan of Death's HungerFill the graveyard up with 6 (3 x 2) cards from the Tymaret Calls the Dead Saga. Exile an enchantment or creature in your graveyard to create 2/2 zombies. Finally gain life and scry based on the number of zombies you control. Then "Escape" with Kroxa and slam him on the board forcing your opponent to discard a card in the process. Then with each attack, they have to discard a card or loose 3 life. A 6/6 attacker is killer - especially in the late game!Combo 6: [Flashback]- Claim the Firstborn- Call of the Death-Dweller- Chandra, Acolyte of FlameUse Chandra's -2 ability to cast Claim the Firstborn or Call of the Death-Dweller from the graveyard - effectively giving these cards a second life (flashback!). There's nothing worse than stealing your opponents blocker, and then using him as a attacker to punch more damage through, before finally sacrificing his creature to the Priest or Witch's Oven or Rankle!Card Draw:- Priest of Forgotten Gods- Rankle, Master of Pranks- Castle Locthwain Sacrifice Cards:Almost every card in the deck has a sacrifice effect or similar synergy. Don't forget that the following cards also have sacrifice triggers:- Fabled Passage (don't crack this until you have a valid target for the Mayhem Devil)- Tymaret Calls the Dead (this saga is sacrificed once it's finished)- Rankle, Master of PranksSummary:This deck is extremely versatile and very deadly. I highly recommend this deck as it's a stone cold killer! Never before has the "sacrifice" mechanic been so heavily abused!
