I could totally see it working, but probably more of a sideboard option? It's really awkward if you end up bouncing your own things, as it's hard to get phoenixes and amalgams out of your hand, I think.

Would be very good against other creature decks, that's for sure.

Is it puresteel paladin based though? otherwise, how are you drawing cards to replace the 0-cost ones? Just curious how you would improve this deck.

Honestly I don't think this is the optimal configuration of the deck, I just took the existing eggs shell from back in the day and tried to see if it could function. Then again, there's no good draw engine, even when running a bunch of 1 mana eggs that draw, so running more of the 0 mana ones feels like you would brick very quickly. Interesting idea though, for sure.

I was planning on keeping this deck Modern, so the other scry suggestions are not really an option. On the topic of flooded strand, I like to have the utility of being able to shuffle away possible bad cards, but you are right that if you do need to fetch it could create some awkward situations. I will probably cut 1-2 of them for the fountains, you're right there.

In terms of the snapcasters and isochron scepters, you can't actually flicker an emrakul with cloudshift type effects, as the emrakul has protection from coloured spells. That being the case, I'm pretty sure i won't include isochron specter. However, snapcaster is still an interesting idea if you move the deck away from the sage-type creatures and instead have more cantrip effects.

You could also add in the gifts ungiven/unburial rites combo in here somewhere. This being the case, I think I like the deck how it is at the moment.

Mastery of the Unseen is an interesting decision. I quite like the ability to have consistent manifests, and it can stall a full board to give this deck some otherwise needed late game. It is definitely more slow than some of the other options you could use, like Cloudform, for instance. Yes, I know that flickering an emrakul does not give you the life gain, but if you do end up flickering an emrakul, why does the life gain matter at all? You just win the game on the spot 99% of the time. However, all the other creatures in the deck are really cheap, and if it does go late, being able to flip some sages face-up and gain tons of life and also rearrange future manifests seems pretty good for me. There definitely are arguments to be made for playing a more aggressive, combo oriented version, even one using omniscience (as it can too can get flipped off being manifested), but I quite like this version of the deck. Still not sure what to cut though. :)

Ok, having modified the deck a fair bit, I am having difficulty finding a last couple cuts. Not sure on the amount of land, but 23-24 seems good with trying to use mastery of the unseen as a possible win. Also not sure about other ratios. Any advice would be appreciated.

Yeah, sorry, this is a work in progress. Mtgvault is glitching for me and I'm trying to do this on mobile over crappy internet. The concept is still there, however, and I will probably finalize the deck within the next hour or two.

Quite a possibility. Also, any thoughts about adding in the new Silumgar? Being able to whip him back, steal an Ugin, and then board whipe (or some similar combination) seems hilarious. It would probably only be a 1-of sideboard tech, if anything, though. I don't know for sure, needs testing. stealing sarkhan and ulting? xD the possibilities are endless with this build. Currently, this idea is my third favourite. I am playing my own brew of 5-Colour Chromanticore Soulflayer, which is my favourite only because it does so well and is my own creation, and other than that, my new blue/black hand disruption Waste Not control. http://www.mtgvault.com/turtle228/decks/bu-discard-womboooo/

Still love it :)

Thanks for the feedback! I haven't really had time to either build this deck in real life or test it much online, so it is pretty rough at the moment, as you can tell. :)

Essentially the idea is to use the standard blue/black control shell , with the added Waste Not/Dark Deal combos for serious advantage. I am not sure whether or not to run more or less lands, but seeing as it plays very much like a control deck, I was thinking more on the high end, so I went for 26. I am pretty sure it could work well with 25 as well, not sure if it could be optimal at 24 however.

As for a sideboard, I was considering the Pearl Lakes, for as you can tell this deck is very light on threats if they do not discard any creatures (making zombies with Waste Not), so against control. Your gameplan in that situation is to disrupt their hand enough that they can't deal with an Ugin or Silumgar. Therefore, sideboarding in more threats, of Pearl Lake Ancient, Silumgar, the Drifting Death, or, one of my favourites, Prognostic Sphinx, is one of my priorities.

The other matchup that seems less than favourable is aggro, be it red/white, jeskai, or mono-red. So yes, Drown is Sorrow is another great card there, along with some Crux of Fates? Also probably Monastery Sieges will go into the sideboard, great in the control and burn matchups with both modes.

Thanks again for the feedback, I will keep trying to perfect this list, especially when Dragons of Tarkir comes out, Silumgar's Command is definitely going in. Brings way to much flexibility and advantages to not include.

***Also sorry for the wall of text.***

I quite like this idea for a deck, and was going to build a list very similar to this myself but instead chose the 5-colour Chromanticore Soulflayer combo. I used this deck as some inspiration though, adding 1 maindeck Xenagos, God of Revels to that.

There was just one suggestion that would not necessarily be the best possible card for the deck but would at least provide a decent threat against aggro and also an unstoppable force once you get a hornet queen into the graveyard. That card is Alesha, Who Smiles at Death. As a first striker, it can successfully block most aggressive cards in the format, only really losing out to burn. It gets insane value with Hornet Queen, and also a significant interaction with Satyr Wayfinder. It can also return your Coursers if your opponent cant profitably block it.

If you could at least give your opinion, and possibly playtest with it, that would be much appreciated. You essentially saved me the time of entering this decklist myself. Hoping to build it soon :)

Yeah, i was just hesitant on using too much delve, I generally want to focus using that on Soulflayers. I was considering a Hornet queen instead, for use with whip, but Tasigur seems too stronk.

I agree, to an extent. Trying Pharika in my attempt, above. The only thing is, I just add it for another way to keep the Soulflayer alive, kind of as an alternative to hexproof. Although it is nice to have both, it is kind of overkill in my mind.
Having both as options is fairly nice though, and being able to make little deathtouchers with Pharika is a nice sideplan.

As i said, I haven't modified this deck since khans standard. I will probably do that tomorrow, but glares and, well, an actual sideboard, do exist, I just havent put them on here yet.

As for the Grand Master, also haven't tried her, although i was planning on trying 2, moving the deflecting palm and chandra to the sideboard.

The other card i actually did get a chance to try out was Shaman of the Great Hunt. On the games where he survived for more than a turn, I immediately won. He also got to hit pretty hard whenever I played him, as i could generally keep the board fairly clear. It seems like a decent addition to a token theme like this. Also he turns into a 5/3, which does trade well into a Siege Rhino if they play one later.

Thanks for the input :D

This is my attempt at the same thing, in more of an Abzan shell. The only concern I have with this deck, and it's a fairly big one, is it seems not to have too many ways to get cards into your graveyard. Considering the number of delve cards and ways to consistently get things into your graveyard (only charms and sieges, if you choose khans), I would heavily consider adding Commune with the Gods, or Taigam's Scheming, possibly instead of the Rakshasa's Secrets or Interpret the Signs. They do decent jobs at refilling your graveyard and helping your draws. Also can fix mana problems, which this deck generally will be fine with but can still be helpful if trying to hardcast a Chromanticore early.

Love the idea, of going more of the control route with the soulflayer combo deck. Mine was more of a later midrange variety with less draw of removal.

Cheers! :3

Appreciate the replies. I was kind of trying to create a deck that would be somewhere in the middle between a combo/token list and a normal midrange list. Also, this is pre- FRF, so the Monastery Mentor's are possibilities now. I have not tried them yet, though.

The idea was to create more tokens then the (khans standard) jeskai/abzan decks could deal with, but have slightly bigger threats than the combo list. Those were the most prevalent decks where i play, so this was trying to be a bit of a metagame call.

So yes, the exclusion of the Ascendancy was intentional.

Also, the last stoke/outburst were just because i did not have the cards, but should probably have been included in the deck.

Also, about the healing lands, that was also a decision i made because I was running pain lands and confluences, and found myself taking a lot of damage from my lands. That was making games versus jeskai and burn very close, so i decided to just add a few healing lands to try to counteract that a little bit.

This deck has only played in a few tournaments, and had about a 75% win rate pre-FRF, and i went 3/2 in the post-FRF FNM a few days ago.

Stoke the Flames would also probably be a good addition, kills any target that is slightly bigger and can be used as a good finisher.
