Deck Description

This weekend, my local playing group is having a Type 2 Pauper Tournament. The rules require all decks to be made up only with common cards from the current standard blocks. This is my attempt at making a pauper infect deck.

Deck discussion for Unstoppable Infection (Pauper)

Blighted Agent + Dark Favor = 4/2 unblockable infect. Plenty of counter spells to prevent my opponents from killing it off.

Ichorclaw Myr = Blockers bait. When my opponent declares blockers, Ichorclaw Myr gets +2/+2. I then Unsummon or Doom Blade the blocker(s) and hit for at least 3 direct infect damage. Throw in Dark Favor for even more infectious fun.

And toss in a well-timed Mutagenic Growth to finish them off.

Considering this deck is all commons, as required by the format, I think it works nicely.

Any comments?

Umm just a note: When blockers are declared, and Ichorclaw Myr is blocked that damage never goes through whether or not you Unsommon or DoomBlade. Once a creature is declared blocked the damage is mitigated unless they have double strike (killing the creature in the FirstStrike phase and then doing the normal combat damage) or the creature has trample.

So no, when Ichorclaw Myr is blocked and you Unsummon or Doom Blade, that person does not get 3 direct infect damage.

Not too bad... Faced on similar to this in my local tournament. I beat it with my infect twice by the third turn. I love what magic has done with he blue infect... But it's a little to slow for tournament play.

Hmm. Pauper only and infect...

1. Plague Stinger - 2 drop, 1/1 flying infect. Believe it or not, this little bugger will help almost as much as your Blighted Agents.

2. Unsummon vs. Vapor Snag - Same thing, but Vapor Snag tims them for one, which more likely than not will do to piss off any opponent. In other words, a great play.

3. Virulent Wound - I like Virulent Wound, but it really only helps against one-drops or tokens, depending on what you're playing against. I have much the same issue with Gitaxian Probe, since it's there mainly to draw. And Cancel..... Let's not discuss Cancel.

Suggestions:
Though it's a bit of a slower play, Grim Affliction is a neat little card with a proliferate attached onto it.
Sam thing with Steady Progress, which I prefer to Gitaxian Probe in this case.

Into the Roil also would be a neat card to have in here, at least sideboarded. Tempo and card advantage... Good combination on a common.

I'll let you know if I can think of anything else, but overall, cool deck, and I wish you the best in your game.

Thanks. I playtested it last night and I came up with some even more nasty ideas. Overall, this deck when done right is a turn 3/4/5 infect win. I may end up swaping out the virulent wounds from my side deck for plague stingers. We shall see.

Gitaxian Probe is one I like because I can not only draw a card for 1 mana, but I can see my opponent's cards. Its worth it to me with this deck to see what potential defense my opponent has before I attack with Blighted or Ichorclaw. Having a "Millenium Eye" of sorts is a great help.

BTW, I nearly beat up last friday for playing http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=215745 in a vintage tourney.

I went 2-2 in 4 rounds.
