Deck Description

my attempt at an amazing control deck possibly for future tournement...please help. all cards used are cards i own so if u have any suggestions on cards i should trade or buy let me know. i want this to be standard legal though. (side note: what should i put in my sideboard???) i was informed i had the deck type wrong so :) style changed. thanks

took this to FNM got SLAMMED! needed change of focus let's try this...

Changes that will be made if i ever get ahold of the cards:
-1 deciever exarch
-1 fiend hunter
-1 breath
+1 Drogskol
+2 dungeon geists

Realized my mana base was incribly broken so changed it -4 plains +4 island

Further testing shows need less control more aggro...i just like aggro haha so this is updated
no longer running with spirits

Deck discussion for W/U Standard Aggro-Control (NEED HELP)

first its an aggro control deck not control. second white control without a day of judgement is no good so try to trade for the judgements. sideboard cards for this deck oblivion ring, cancel, mana leak, honor of the pure, and intangible virtue. honor of the pure and virtue would turn it more aggro based for faster kills vs. slower decks. cancel, oblivion and mana leak will help vs ramp and such... good luck

so what makes it aggro control? too many creatures? i was afraid with the pace of this deck it would run too slowly and i would need the constant creatures to buy me the time and as for day of judgment i can try. i used to have a single copy but let it go before i realized i wanted to make this deck. i like the ideas for sideboard but im always confused about how to actually use them as in what to take out and what to put in.

Yes it has to many creatures to be straight control and the fact that a lot of your creatures have control aspects to them. As for the sideboard cards you want to switch out things like counterspells for things like honor and intangible cause counters always work to slow down play so you can take control of the board where bigger creatures work to speed up the game by dealing damage faster. basically if you can deal 20 damage by turn 5 vs a control deck you will most likely win if you do the same thing to an aggro deck they will most likely have a creature to answer your creatures with every timeso dealing the same 20 damage to an aggro deck becomes nearly impossible by turn 5 this is where you want to slow things down for them by countering their early game threats then when they run out of steam you start dropping your threats

ive talked to a friend of mine i can scrap up 2 honor of the pure and 2 day of judgment should i add i have a few copies of oblivion ring and i can get another cancel but i think i have enough counter im worried about removal because it seems like i have nothing to stop an aggro deck once they have those creatures out. i put it my curse in there for instances in which i couldnt counter it should i maybe add ramp? some stuff in this deck tends to be quite expensive and as my mana base is all basic practically i find myself in need of one mana color or another

one really cheap way to mana fix is to add evolving wilds sac it to bring in a basic of your choice and its a nickle common the other is to buy/trade the dual land which is usually expensive. for removal day of judgement is the best white has to offer but there are other options dispense justice, slayer of the wicked, and arrest to name a few. Blue has no real removal but has return a permanent to its owners hand like vapor snag, disperse, grasp of phantoms, and into the roil to name a few. Do not add ramp it will completely unfocus your deck. and a final note forgotten: ghost quarter can also fix your land but at a very high price

I dont play control very much - it's just not my style. I usually play aggro or combo based decks. So my experice here is mostly from the other side of the table.

But, I see a lot of people playing mana leak and think twice together. If you save back the 2 land for the leak during your opponent's turn and don't end up using it - think twice instead. It's efficient mana use and card advantage at the same time!

Also, I'm pretty sure these are all commons and may fit what you're doing here:

Stonehorn Dignitary
Disperse
Tumble Magnet
Gideon's Lawkeeper

Oh, and cryptoplasm! This is an inexpensive rare that can copy any of your creatures or theirs!

i see what youre doing there and i must disagree. that would make for a very pricy and generic deck and the people i tend to play with at FNM tend to have an answer for that type of delver deck. its one of the things i decided NOT to do when i started building this deck. i wanted a unique and cheap deck and made do with the cards i had and so far its looking the best that way i appreciate the line tho :) this apparently has become my most popular deck ever

haha well i'm sorry to tell you but you're going to get slammed at FNM by these "generic" decks if you dont tighten this up and make it atleast a little more mainstream!

i agree completely though that we should all add our own flavor to our decks, for instance i have a delver deck that so far as i can tell is different than any i've seen but it runs very very well competitively. check out any decks i've made and you'll see that although they are my own build and design they are focused enough to be Super Effective, Draw in your focus a little with deck. otherwise you'll keep getitng dominated

the problem i had with this deck at the FNM was more that it ran on tokens and the tokens were too wimpy the way i had them then the counterspells just wouldnt work so i changed it to the way it is now. also my sideboard wasnt constructed at the time. i posted what changes will be made to the deck when i have the chance. that will tighten it up
