Deck Description

A White/Red standard deck based around Slumbering Dragon. Paired with strong counter generation such as, Ring of Valkas, Mikaeus, Ajani, and Proliferate, Slumbering Dragon can pose threat to most decks if not dealt with immediately. Alongside the array of counters is a decent amount of flyers, utilizing Lingering Should and Entreat the Angels. If the fight does linger on Thundermaw Hellkite is a killer late game 5 mana drop that will do damage to any deck.

This deck idea seems very solid to me though I'm still working out a few kinks such as dealing with a control deck. In the sideboard are Spellskite, Nevermore, and Reverberate to swap in against a control deck though I'm not sure if its enough.

With Bonfire of the Damned in circulation its always important to have dealing with that in mind as well as control decks, to answer that swapping in Hero of Bladehold is nice to keep in hand till Bonfire is dropped as she brings her army with her to hold the fort down.

Looking forward to reading your comments and suggestions to help improve this deck! Don't forget to favorite if you like the idea or think I'm onto something.

Deck discussion for W/R Slumbering Dragon [Standard]

Nice little deck. I'm happy to see someone trying to find a use to a card everyone is branding as useless. If i were you however, i'd main board that Spellskite to avoid having your Slumbering Dragon, Doombladed or Vapor Snagged on T2.

Thank you for the reply Franked. I was upset when Slumbering Dragon was deemed useless due to the metagame and overuse of amazing low mana drops such as Delver. I am aware that there is perfectly good reason to use delver but when every other deck is a variation of Delver it gets redundant.

Anyways you make a good point in main boarding Spellskite to redirect a lot of threats (counters, doom blade, burn spells, ect). Might be even more interesting when you get some +1/+1 counters on him.

I also agree with what has been said before. You need some ways to protect your sleeping dragon. Otherwise this deck won't have you winning with said dragon that often. In my opinion I think this dragon will be better outside or standard unless RtR brings something out from the Izzet guild.
However till then I think I would enjoy playing this type of deck.
