Deck Description

Slivers have always drawn hate, why not just accept that there will be hate, and adapt?

In this deck, the slivers have been trimmed down to make room for stuff to make them wipe-resistant. While we're at it, there is also a number of land wipe cards added to knock out the competition while you're sitting pretty on your sliver version of a flock of birds-of-paradise.

This is designed as a multiplayer EDH deck, and I'll be putting it through the playtesting gauntlet to help adjust it over time. Some key differences of design over a 1-on-1 Slivers deck: first, this is not an aggro deck, nor is it designed to combo your friends into annoyed submission. In playstyle, this deck is a pillow-fort that hides a stax canon. When up and running, it can destroy or steal creatures, and can do point destruction on artifacts and enchantments. While the slivers themselves aren't immune to board-wipes, they are as resistant to it as possible, and this deck aims that any wipe that hits you should hit your opponents worse.

The main win condition besides simply beating people with an army of slivers is sac-ing your sliver tokens to trigger the pillow-fort's defenses, and deal loads of pain to your opponents (damage + sac-a-creature effects).

To make this a 1-on-1 deck, simply swap the relevant sideboard cards in: counterspells, tutors, damage enchantments, and whatever else seems appropriate. In such a case, the pillowfort becomes merely a way to delay your opponent while you get the upper hand.

Commander/General: Sliver Overlord (listed in sideboard here)

For a cheaper version of this deck (since I only play it as a proxy deck):
- Replace the dual-lands with basic lands
- Replace the fancy Slivers with similar cheaper ones
-- You'll go a little slower, but its better to have a deck than nothing at all. There isnt' anything irreplacable in the deck besides the General and the Crystaline Sliver.

EDIT: Will revise the text here and below after playtesting deck enough that it is stable. Till then check the changelog comments below for details.

EDIT: This deck is now hosted at Tapped Out (they've got nicer tools than the vault does), I'll try to keep this copy of the deck synced with the one there, but there may be a delay. You can find it here: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/slivers-destroyer-of-worlds/

How to Play

This deck relies heavily on achieving the following steps:
1. Get enough mana to summon the Sliver Overlord
2. Use the Overlord to pull Gemhide Sliver
3. Use the Overlord to pull Crystaline Sliver

Everything past that is icing on the cake. Play what is appropriate for the situation, be aggressive and beef up with Sliver Queen and Sliver Legion, or sit back and grab defensive stuff like Frenetic Sliver, Pulmonic Sliver, and Root Sliver (Worship is great for defensive).

Assume that it's just a matter of time before you attract hate, since you're playing Slivers. Do your best to find at least one thing that lets you avoid wipes. The Cauldron is great for that, but Boros Charm makes everything indestructable for a turn. To avoid mass-exile effects, use the Frenetic Sliver or Faith's Reward.

Lastly, remember that you actually don't need land after a certain point, so you can feel free to play any of the land destruction spells you want. Even better, since you can bounce your slivers or make the indistructable you can survive even the big mass-wipes that use exile effects like really playing Decree of Annihilation (instead of it's uncounterable cycling version).

Happy hunting.

Deck discussion for Slivers, Destroyer of Worlds

I'm considering replaceing Chromatic Lantern with Ashnod's Altar, but it's a little too combo-tastic for my taste. Suggestions?

Update: based on some feedback, I'm going to try the following cards out in person, and see if they pan out before modifying the deck listing:
- Replace Homing Sliver with Manaweft Sliver
- Replace Birds of Paradise with Hibernation Sliver
- Replace Sidewinder Sliver (the flanking one) with Wild Pair
- Replace Wooded Foothills (or some other fetchland) with Transguild Promenade
- Replace Arid Mesa (or some other fetchland) with Training Grounds
- Replace Expedition Map with Cryptic Gateway
- Replace Verdant Catacombs (or some other fetchland) with Epic Struggle
- Replace Misty Rainforet (or some other fetchland) with Primal Surge

Also: Replace the Blade Sliver with Telekinetic Sliver, and Marsh Flats with Syphon Sliver (it actually stacks with Essence Sliver, since one is a state-based effect, and the other is on the stack).

I've put in the latest revisions, will playtest them later today.

Latest Playtest results:
- The Overlord can be brought out consistently around turn 5, with the latest I've run into being turn 7. Thus, there appears to be sufficient mana.
- Neither the Chromatic Lantern nor the Joiner Adept were ever needed. (Didn't draw them, and didn't suffer for not having them)
- None of the Fetchlands have been very necessary, only coming up when there was already sufficient alternative sources.
- Considering replacing Worship with Leyline of Sanctity, or Witchbane Orb. Worship doesn't do anything to Commander Damage (21 to lose).
- As well, Joiner Adept will probably be replaced with a Demonic Tutor, and the Chromatic Lantern with either Ghostway, Ravages of War, or Sigarda, Host of Herons.

The Joiner Adept could also be replaced with a Sylvan Library or Gravepact.

It looks like the toolkit can generate enough "destroy target X", and there's no basic land to benefit from self-exile, so I'm swapping Path to Exile for Grim Tutor.

Also, I'm trying out replacing: Screeching Sliver with Dormant Sliver.

May replace Wild Pair with Malestrom Nexus (the cascade effect accomplishes a similar result as the Wild Pair, without being fussy about P/T values; there are many slivers with similar casting costs)

Alright, doing the following replacements (remove the first card, put in the second):
- Galerider Sliver (forgot that Pulmonic gives free flying) for Ameboid Changeling (steal things with overlord)
- Polluted Delta for Shields of Velis Vel (make everything a stealable target)
- Sunpetal Grove for Ancient Ziggurat (have too much W/G already, need more anything)

I'm putting the ameboid changeling back in because I figured out how to use the theft combo with Overlord at instant speed: Quick Sliver + (any return to hand sliver, like hibernation sliver) + Crystaline Sliver + Overlord + Ameboid
1. Bounce Crystaline
2. Tap Ameboid
3. Wait for (2) to resolve
4. Grab the target sliver with Overlord
5. Re-cast the Crystaline Sliver after (4) resolves

The best part is that it can be interrupted whenever someone would try targeting you, and you can just recast the Crystaline Sliver earlier, and try again to grab the target next turn.

Also: replace Spectral Sliver with Mirror Entity (similar pumping, but can also readjust for Wild Pair [cast sliver, when before it comes into play, pay the X, to change the P/T before Wild Pair's ETB part resolves] )

Also: replace Horned Sliver (the trample one) with Scroll Rack; Heartstone with Winter Orb (you don't need the land, even if they do).

Replace Epic Struggle with Vicious Shadows (it triggers on token sacs, as well as when other player's creatures die!)

Did that change, and moved Primal Surge and Sheilds of Velis Vel to Sideboard, replacing them with Force of Will and Voidslime respectively

Swapped Acidic Sliver from Sideboard into deck, replacing Fungus Sliver (who doesn't work quite so well, when slivers really only get wiped or nothing).
