Deck Description

Wild Nacatl has been unbanned! This zoo aggro deck will hopefully become a new Modern staple as the Jund and Junk decks fade into antiquity as Deathrite Shaman disappears.

How to Play

An aggro build featuring the stylings of the mighty one-mana 2/3s: Loam Lion, Steppe Lynx, and Kird Ape; the Star Performer: the 3/3 Wild Nacatl; the big, buff Tarmogoyf; Tribal Flames with Snapcaster Mage; and supporting Burn, Pump, and other removal spells.

I think this deck shouldn't need blue. Use grim lavamanacer.

But . . . Tribal Flames and Might of Alara . . . and Snapcaster Mage . . .

I understand, but with the mana curve. its to hard.

it also allows your deck to play 4 of the zoo creatures.

I don't want 18 one-drop creatures in my deck! (4 Lynx, 4 Nacatl, 4 Lion, 4 Ape, 2 Goblin). They all die to Supreme Verdict anyway. Tribal Flames is 5 damage for 2 mana. And Snapcaster lets to reuse Tribal Flames. It's too good to pass up. I mean, just draw some sample hands! It does not cripple the deck. I'm more surprised you people aren't telling me not to play black; I only have black in the sideboard.

That is what Zoo plays. SO many 1 drops except goyf. You have to have 4 mana to use snap with flames. This deck doesn't get to 4 mana very often. Its your deck but I really don't think the logic "they all die to supreme verdict" is a valid argument since everything dies to it. that's like saying "i wont play creatures cause they die to everything". This deck should kill your opponent on or before the 4th or 5th turn anyway.

Maybe Breeding Pool instead of Watery Grave. More access to green, less access to black for it's only in your sb.

This guy... Man, the curve is just too much. Listen to these other guys. Highly suggested to remove the blue.

Oh, for crying out loud! I've watched hours of competitive Modern Magic. I've watched David Ochoa play a similar deck at the Magic Player's Championship. I've proxied this deck and playtested it. Your insistence on removing blue does not sway me. The blue stays.

Well Gfreeman makes a very good point. It is your deck, but the logic you are exercising just isn't there. Sorry doode, but sometimes your opinion (no matter how much you think it is) isn't the right answer. The point of putting a deck on this website and being able to comment on them is so people can critic them and give advice. If you shut down all advice like that, then don't post decks.

I agree with that. We are only trying to help. Trust me I play modern ALOT and I know having a snapcaster and trying to get that 4th land can be very difficult. Its your deck. But I'm not saying this out of ignorance, i'm saying it out of experience. I have a deck that is kinda like zoo (4 colored but a mill deck) VERY similar CMC and i play 4 snaps and they just don't always cut it. Most of the time I have to waste them just for a chump block cause I'm at 2 or 3 lands when I need 4.

VintageFTW: "I've watched hours of competitive Modern Magic."
Gfreeman: "I play modern ALOT"

Hm, I wonder which is more credible when it comes to experience ... Watching or playing Magic. Sorry for hassling you, but you gotta see the other side of this, and that is that your splash blue will only slow this deck down. You've got 3 Snapcasters that are taking up precious space. Zoo decks are fast and cut-throat. Snapcaster isn't either of those; he's a utility.

All right, I totally understand your critique. I'm not trying to be ignorant or stubborn, I'm just defending my position.

That is also fine. I like a debate about a deck, that's were better opinions come from and where a better deck is made because of it. It will help you be a better player and it will help me be a better player as well.

Removing the blue and other nonbasics that aren't naya colours make you slightly stronger to blood moon because you are sooo dead at the moment if they drop it!

Take out tribal flames and might of alara. You only have 1 basic land card and that's it. Nice deck! :)

You are mistaken, sir. The shock lands of Return to Ravnica block have two basic land types. Tribal Flames and Might of Alara count basic land types, not types in basic lands you control.

Thank you!

In theory you only need 2 lands to get all 4 types (e.g. Temple Garden + Steam Vents). Because this deck has so many fetch lands, you will get there incredibly easy.

Looking at Tarmogoyf, I have a suggestion/question.

It says, "Tribal" also counts as card type. Would e.g. a Tribal instant in your graveyard count as Instant as well as tribal (giving him +2/+2)?

If no, nevermind. Just never really read what Tarmogoyf says because he's so expensive.
If yes, interesting additions would be Tarfire instead of Lightning Bolt or Helix and Nameless Inversion (for sideboard probably) for some more removal or pumping up your creatures.

You are correct but Honestly you only need goyf to be a 4/5 at most and you win with him. I love using my Goyf's that way.

I like the deck. I like a lot of the comments that are there about dropping blue. I see both sides of this. I think the blue build to naya needs to have a little more for the midrange game then the quick game that your deck seems to be looking for. I have been messing around with zoo for a little while now and I am planning on taking it to a grand prix that is in my area very soon. Ii have taken my zoo to a local grand prix trial last week and made the top 8 with it. It was my loss in the first round of the top 8 that made me realize that fast zoo just doesn't have enough to make it all the way. I have upgraded my deck to a bigger variation. Take a look, I would be glad to hear some reviews on it since I have upgraded the creatures!

+1 from me!
