Deck Description

A fun, cheap, standard deck I put together with an infinite mana combo :).
Note this deck is not competitive, just play it for fun.

Use lands in Sideboard if you have the money for it.

How to Play

This deck's infinite combo revolves around Axebane Guardian and Galvanic Alchemist.

This is a pretty simple combo. Get out your Axebane Guardian with at least 3 other defenders, use Galvanic Alchemist's soulbound ability on him, and untap him after you tap him for mana.

4 Turn Win:
Turn 1: Forest + Elvish Mystic
Turn 2: Island + Axebane Guardian
Turn 3: Island or Forest depending on defenders you have in your hand + Galvanic Alchemist + Gatecreeper Vine/Murmuring Phantasm/Fog Bank
Turn 4: Any 2 defenders you have in your hand + Infinite Mana Combo + Devil's Play

You need to make a small amendment to your how to play. You need four defenders for infinite mana, your current turn four only has 3, you need to play 2 defenders turn 4 in order to get the infinite mana combo initiated (since galvanic alchemist and elvish mystic are not defenders).

Other than that i'm glad to see my Death By Defender strategy is still alive and well

Good catch, I either typed it wrong or miscounted. And yeah, it's a really fun strategy.

Just looked at your profile and you have some pretty sweet decks, those are awesome.

Throw in 4 Clone or maybe Cackling Counterpart to speed up your on field Axebane Guardians. You are still better off with Think Twice over Divination or even Forbidden Alchemy to mine for Axebane/Devil's Play or Clone/Counterpart. Dispel and Essence Scatter are usually SB fodder against control/midrange decks. I would suggest, with these colors and scheme, to go Turbo Fog (Fog, Clinging Mists, Deliverance) to stave off the alpha strike. One last thing, Garruk, Primal Hunter, I know he's a bit pricey still but a 2 of would be better than Amass the Components. Again a 60 card deck with 4 drops really needs to have 22-24 mana especially if it's a 3 color deck.

This is only a 2 color deck, the red is only used if axebane is on the field cause it generates the red mana

So red is used? There is a card with at least one red mana symbol? Yes? Ok, 3 color deck. I'm aware that Devil's Play is the only red spell, I got it. Let's be productive, the mana mention was because this deck is running 20 lands, in my opinion and experience 20 just isn't enough to ensure you reach 4 lands. The other option is to play 4 Elvish Mystic and 4 Arbor Elves to count as mana then I could accept 20, but why do that when the addition of 2 lands makes the acquisition of 4 lands more probably. At the very least 3 Farseek to go along with Gatekeeper Vine. Vr knows what I'm talking about.

Alright, I added Forbidden Alchemy and Think Twice for better card draw. I also added some Fogs and put the Dispel/Essence Scatter is the SB. After getting rid of Amass the Components there are no longer any 4 drops so I only need 3 mana. I think 3 mana is easily achievable using a 20 land deck with 3 Gatecreepers and 4 Elvish Mystics. I could replace Elvish Mystic with 2 lands and 2 of something else but I feel like that would slow the deck down considering I have no other 1 drop creatures.

Sure, that makes sense.

I've had a lot of experience with this deck. Here are a few suggestions.

Use Wall of Frost instead of Hover Barrier.

Take out a Murmuring Phantasm for a fourth Fog Bank.

You may want to remove the fog spells for more defenders, giving the deck a better chance of working. Ludevic's Test Subject can make a nice alternate win con, and can easily be transformed if you have infinite mana but no Devil's Play. If you choose to keep them though, at least go up to 4 Fogs and 2 Deliverance since you don't have anything to populate.

Instead of spells such as Think Twice, try Trackers Instincts. You will be able to dig way further into your deck with that, plus you might mill a Devil's Play, setting you up for the combo.

You may want to splash just a tiny bit of red. That way, you could possibly Devil's Play a threat earlier in the game, then flashback later when you have infinite mana. I've done great with just two mountains (which can be gotten with Gatecreeper) and four Izzet Guildgates instead of Simic.

That's the point of having Forbidden Alchemy, to mine for needed cards in hand. By the time you have the mana FTW he should have a Devil's Play in hand or ready for flashback. Wall of Frost is a great suggestion!!!

I did most of the suggestions. I'll keep thinking about Tracker's Instincts, I'm not sure if I want to do that yet.

Ah, I've played against a very similar deck quite a bit. You must be pretty excited for Theros with the new ramp card defenders are getting, eh?

My critique is that I would suggest removing devils play entirely and using Doorkeeper as your win con. :)
