Deck discussion for G/W/R ETB deck

I like the idea behind Conjurer's Closet but I think they are just too high end mana cost and are easily taken care of. what about replacing them with 2 birthing pods just to help you curve out and get those zealous conscripts out at the most vital point. Also if you are going to add the birthing pods look at replacing the lambholts with 2 hellriders.

I'll put those into considerations but the birthing pods will phase out on oct so i'm not sure if it will be worth it. Incase of having extra budget i'll give it a try. thanks

Predian isn't wrong about Conjurer's Closet being easy to zap, but if it makes it out and you keep it around for a few turns it's absolutely wonderful in an ETB deck. I like it a lot, consider running Acidic Slime. Oh, and Sudden Disappearance can often win for a deck like this (build an army that can do 20 in a turn, play Sudden Disappearance, win). I have a G/W deck very similar to this and I've been thinking about putting in Huntsmaster... I'll just link to my Angel deck here, if you don't mind. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=371344&DeckCommentID=279539

thanks for the suggestion, I almost forgot of acidic slime. I'm thinking of replacing attended knight because i think it's somewhat not worth to be cloudshifted but do you have any thoughts of what could be a better replace for this card? thanks again for the sudden disappearance suggestion.

Almost anything would be better than Staff of Nin. However, something that would be really effective? Yeva. Add her and give ALL your creatures flash. :) Plus, it would bring your mana costs down. If you want to replace Attended Knight for something more effective, try Fiend Hunter.

Too bad you're mostly post rotation. Thragtusk (or any of these, really) on a Mimic Vat is kind of hilarious. XD

I guess Yeva can really give in a punch but the drawing ability of the staff on nin is the thing i need why i put it there. I'll try putting Yeva in and look how my deck goes with her. The fiend hunters can be nice I guess, I'll try them out and put them in.

I'll buy or trade some for those mimic vats if they aren't too expensive and give them a try. Thanks for the suggestions!

I think flickering might be good for this deck so try adding in restoration angel.

there's already a set of restoration angels in the deck maybe you just missed them. anyway thanks for checking my deck out!

Fiend Hunter isn't a bad idea. You can permanently exile a target with a fiend hunter and cloudshift. Plus with two fiend hunters and a resto angel you can perform an infinite loop of ETB, so if you have like... Cathar's Crusade, Seriph Sanctuary, Suture Priest, Soul of the Harvest on the board you can put infinite counters out, gain infinite life, or draw infinite cards.

Hmmmm... that's quite tempting. i'll keep that in mind and try it out but i'm mot sure if i should rely on that combo because it's a little hard to play with all of them at the field at once. It's really an idea that i'm looking forward to do. Thanks for the suggestion! btw, on those you have mentioned above, what do you think is the most effective to have infinite of. thanks!

Why does no one use roaring primadox in decks like this?

0
Posted 13 August 2012 at 02:09

I thought about using roaring primadox but It's just that there could be a time when I have roaring primadox and no other creatures thus I would just return him back to my hand at my next upkeep. I haven't really tried them though. Do you think it would be effective and what do you think should I replace?

0

The amount of creatures in this deck will make it highly unlikely the Primadox is your only creature. He is great at his job, i won a few pre-release games bouncing Elvish Visionary back to my hand to dig down to my bombs.

Which is more effective, thundermaw hellkite or huntmaster of the fells?

0

For the mana cost probably Huntmaster. But if that doesn't matter Thundermaw allows you to tap all of their creatures and swing in for a lot. If you have the creatures for it.

I would add Blade Splicer, not sure what I would replace it with.
Like others said, Staff Of Nin, needs to go away.
Looks like a very fun deck to play. I would think it would be great in multiplayer.

blade splicers are actually one of my favorites, its just that they would go out on rotation. Thanks anyway! i'll try them if i have some extra budget after buying some thundermaws.

I'd add a Bogardan Hellkite or any equivalent big red creature that deals damage upon entering, like inferno titan for example. Only problem it's they are heavy on mana.

I'd like to keep it standard. the inferno titans can be quite handy so i'll try them out if i could get my hands on some. thanks for the idea!

There are other cards that use mana for boost that are standard. Moonveil Dragon, Dragon Hatchling, Flameblast Dragon, and Furnace Whelp are a few that I know of.

Ditch the staffs. I see why you want the cards but wasting 6 mana on it is terrible unless youre in EDH.

If you want card advantage add another elvish visionary and 2 Roaring Primadox. The primadox is amazing in this deck.

And ditch the attended knights. A 2/2 first striker is pretty good i guess, but bouncing it for a 1/1 token is rather underwhelming. Now, 2 Thundermaw hellkites, bounce one of those and thats game. Hes basically a lava axe to the face (unless the have reach) on that first turn, and bouncing him is getting the lava axe again. Game breaking.

I applied what you said and its going good but I'm not able to use the champion of lambholts much anymore. What do you suggest i replace it with?

thundermaw hellkites are really worth its price!

Im surprised the Champions are falling short, she should astounding in pushing through key final damage. You really cant blick/bounce her or shell reset and thatll be a waste.

However, if youre sure she cant keep up, i would suggest supplementing either your 2 drops (3 elvish visionaries isnt enough in that slot) and/or your red cards. Ideally, both, with either Kruin Striker (drop him, play/blink/bounce a bunch of creatures, swing. Not overly reliable but should work if youre careful) or Lightning Mauler (he allows a bouned/blinked creature to attack instantly again), but neither are overwhelming.

For 2-drops, you can have those^ or Timberland guide (a meh card, but the he is cheap to play again off of a Primadox, but you want to take out the ideal target with him) or nightshade peddler (deathtouch is nice but hes bad to bounce). In red, Hamletback goliath is a huge finisher, but hes in the same vein as the champion, and tyrant of discord would be fun to bounce, but a pain to cast.

In summary, i would honestly think the champions should be the best option, i cant think why you cant use them, but if you want to ditch her i think Lightning Mauler is the best option (but not optimal)

I guess because she pumps a little bit slower since the attended knight give her 2 counters immediately and bouncing the attended gives another 2. I guess the part that all my creatures become unblockable at some point is what makes it really useful. Thanks for the enlightenment, Lambholts are still the best choice apparantly. I really appreciate for taking your time helping me with my deck. I really agree with the tyrant of discord, it would really be sweet to play and bounce it a lot but the cost is high. Thanks again!

Well it's obvious you've got a good Touch-Down deck going. Looks good so far, I would switch out the borderland rangers and elvish visionaries with cathedral santifiers or lone missionaries. Maybe even a couple solemn simulacrums.

The borderland rangers and elvish visionaries are the key to speeding up my deck. I thought of using solemn simulacrums over and over again its just that they will phase out on oct and maybe I'd just waste my budget if I'm going to use it for 2 months only. Thanks dor your suggestion though, I'll look at your deck and see what i can suggest.

I'd rather maindeck Acidic Slime than Staff of Nin. I think SoN is an awesome card, but maybe not right for this deck. The suggestions to replace it with Soul of the Harvest make a lot of sense to me.

And Thundermaw Hellkite. Of course.

Village Bell-Ringer seems like it could be decent early on.

And because I like to include at least a single stupid card in every deck, Worldfire. Just one. It would do well in this deck. And it's stupid funny.

Thanks! I took out the staff of nins and its flowing better. I usually face creature decks and control decks that's why i put the acidic slime in the sideboard.

Worldfire is an insane card and maybe I'd put it in when I play in some casual plays. thanks for the comment!
