They took the worst rated cards ever and put them in a deck that literally couldn't operate because there is almost no land. And that is about all there is to it.

I don't know, I'm seeing some small amount of love on North Star's Gatherer Discussion page. It sucks, but is it *the worst*?

If you are making a deck of the WORST CARDS EVER, then you are missing:
Angel's Feather
Demon's Horn
Kraken's Eye
Dragon's Claw
Basilisk's Tooth

'Cos let's face it. They're shit cards

2
Posted 17 November 2013 at 22:06

They are, but Wizard's prints those shit cards that like those, and the Staff of the Magus' every year. If you added them all, it's be out right too much to handle.

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 00:32

The Staff of the Magus or whatever they're called are better than the cards I mentioned
The staffs can be OK for beginners, until they learn how to make a deck, but the other things are just terrible
Yeah, Wizards ALWAYS reprint those cards but I don't know of anything worse

Those could qualify for yet another shitty deck, but I'm not sure if they are the worst.

ok , i'll reconsider the card

Scornful Egotist isn't that bad. Scourge had a few cards that dealt with the highest CMC card you you get X. You could put that out for pretty cheap and use it to your advantage.

8 mana 1/1 with morph
yeah, real great

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 00:59

You're missing the point. It's a card that costs 3 to play, with a CMC of 8. There's cool synergies you can play with there. It's not the best card ever printed, but it's a card that a smart player can pull cool combos with. Think about Rush of Knowledge, or Dispersal Shield in the context of this guy.

Mayve I'm just ignorant because I don't play Vintage/Legacy, but were you see a combo, I see a perfectly good waste of mana and deckspace

0

The game isn't always about making the perfect deck. Sometimes it's about doing something awesome.

There was a cool article somebody from Wizards wrote ages back, where they said they made cards like Scornful Egoist and Goblin Test Pilot to see what cool combos players would come up with. It's a "this card's got an average costing cost but a HUGE CMC, now go you beautiful lunatics, and do something with it," sorta deal.

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 01:36

Goblin test pilot is 3 mana and not bad
Scornful Egotist has a CMC of 6 for his ego alone

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 01:42

How are you getting 6 for a CMC?
Thanks for StrategicMuffinExhausted for mentioning the cards I was talking about.

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 03:57

Simple, Scornful Egotist is an 8 mana 1/1 with morph
I'd think that a card like that would only cost 2 mana, not 8

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 04:09

He has no ability, his strength is his CMC and the ability to get to the battlefield for half the cost.

1

Guys it's best not to talk abou- ALL HAIL THE GREAT LORD EGOTIST

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 21:36

Wrong, wrong amd even MORE wrong
Here is Scornful Egotist:

Card Information
Creature-Wizard 1/1, 7U
Card Rules
Morph {U} (You may play this face down as a 2/2 creature for {3}. Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.)

Taked DIRECTLY from the card information/link.

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 21:59

Bro I don't know how you're missing this.

"Morph {U} (You may play this face down as a 2/2 creature for {3}. Turn it face up any time for its morph cost.)"

" play this face down as a 2/2 creature for {3}."

" play this ... 2/2 ... {3}."

"PLAY THIS ... {3}."

I really don't know how I can make it any more clear. It costs {3} to cost, the morph cost is {U}. The CMC is 8, but if you're casting it for its full cost, you're doing something wrong.

0

You've forced me to do this- Pale Moon. You can tap for COLORLESS mana. Rare quality.

(Only with non-basic lands though)

And if that doesn't tickle your fancy then look at One With Nothing.

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 19:06

Pale moon is actually a fantastic control card. If you know that your opponent is running a lot of non basic lands, then it makes most of them pretty much useless. Which prevents them from casting spells, for lack of the right colored mana.

I don't know dude, apparently people like Ruinous Minotaur. It combos with Countryside Crusher.

0

It seems like a pretty sketchy combo. But it does make the card usable I guess. Personally I still don't think it is worth sacrificing a bunch of lands for it. Perhaps if you built a whole deck around that concept, to lessen the negative impact it has on you... It could be interesting I guess. Although I do have to note that my suggestions are bad as individual cards. Some of the cards on this list are very useful if put into the right deck. :)

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 10:58

Don't forget to add Groundskeeper/Crucible of Worlds in there. The combo makes much more sense when you add them into the equation.

0
Posted 18 November 2013 at 15:13

Yes, I understand how to build around it, but it just seems like a lot of work for very little payoff is all. That is what I mean by sketchy. It works, but it is almost too slow to be competitive. Sure it is fun in casual though.

idk i think rod of ruin is turrible. 7 initial mana to do 1 damage and 3 every other time.

0
Posted 22 November 2013 at 23:18

Yes,but it is cheaper than the boomerang in the long run,and easier to use too. It is 7 for the initial damage, but only 3 for each damage after. The boomerang is 5 each time, AND you have to have a creature out.
