Deck Description

" Brilliance is prone to inevitably propagate brilliance, but not necessarily in a linearly sense, but that brilliant thoughts are sure to provoke others. "

The reason for the quote is that it is the base for me designing this version of LaboratoryGush.

Deck discussion for Lets see where this goes

I like the quote man =]

I like that Laboratory Maniac has found a home in a place just as suitably maniacal as he is...Though I've heard of it being called "Doomsday Device" by some =/

Not much I can suggest man, only thing might be Flusterstorm in place of some of the Spell Pierces...but eh, not 100% sure on that. Wish I could add more, but it looks really good as is =P

Resurgence of STAX? In Vintage? That's interesting...Are we talking MUD, classic, or Glue?

I'm not sure which form it will take, but it's the natural move right now, based from the arms race blue is having for free spells. I'm expecting it to mostly MUD, and to be more specific I'm expecting Cat Stax designs.

Right now some of the best decks are Mystic Remora, Landstill, and the aforementioned Cat Stax. Gush decks with a suites laden with free spells have been doing incredibly well, but have a more difficult Stax MU, and this one is no exception.

Yeah Stax seems to murder Gush and similar decks, which is why I was wondering if it was Glue...since that is notoriously bad for Gush...

Cat Stax is one of a very select group of decks that has actually made me visibly rage =/

Glue is great against Gush, but a lot of people are just ignoring it right now. It worries me that I haven't seen one all month. :|

And I'm surprised Cat Stax makes you of all people rage, I'd think you would be more upset about Glue.

Oh don't get me wrong, Glue drives me f**king crazy...but there's just something about Cat Stax that rubs me the wrong way...

Glue is probably the main reason I don't play Vintage Extraction...If you actually think you have a chance against that MU you're just delusional...it's a nightmare =[

Of course, the other reason I don't play Vintage Extraction is I realllllly don't feel like spending $10,000+ on a single deck...

You might be allergic to cats.

Glue vs. Extraction is hilarious enough that I'd probably be a douche and try to pull it off. And if I ever wound up playing the fabled 'seven decks' I would bring along the one I made XD

And yeah... Vintage is a format where I definitely support proxies, and MWS if you aim to play. I've been looking at cars that cost less than this deck.

Yeah Arty sold one of his old Vintage decks to buy his nephew his first car...http://www.myfacewhen.com/257/

I do in fact dislike cats, dogs are just...better =P

Glue vs Extraction is such a bizarrely horrible MU. When you just think about it, Extraction should, in theory, tear it apart, but it DOESN'T and it CAN'T...and that makes me sad ='{ That said, I'd probably buy you a fatpack just for having the sheer brass balls to play Glue in our shop =P

That's the reason vintage is probably never becoming a paper format for me, I can't buy a car right now, and your friend Arty probably had a bit of money left over after he bought that.

I as well am a dog person, I grew up with six of them, and had so much fun with them. We do have cats now, but dogs are easier to live around :/

I agree that Glue vs Extraction should be a good MU looking at the numbers, but when you think about how many sphere effects Glue runs, and that it has Null Rod and now Stony Silence, it kind of makes sense. And now I'm DEFINITELY bringing a Glue list with me wherever I go :P

Can you guys link some examples of these deck archetypes? The front page is littered with uncreative whatever decks. I want to see some high end shit at its best.

It's not the best, I'll be the first to say that here, but this is the list I use for Glue Stax.

Cat Stax is a lot different, but more aggressive. I like it, but not enough to build it. I think Stephen Menendian did a podcast about it for So Many Insane Plays, but I'm not certain. It'd be at MTGCast.com

Remora Gush is a simple control deck that abuses the cards Mystic Remora, Gush, and cheap counters. It's the worst nightmare to some storm pilots. Stephen Menendian wrote an article about it, I know for fact, because that's how I came upon it first.

And Landstill is an amazing Mana Drain deck, that uses the card Standstill as a means to assure massive card advantage. I think that right now I'd favor a style of it like what Manuel Zanella uses, but -1 Mindbreak trap for +1 Mental Misstep. I've heard it called "fakestill", but Snapcaster Mage is abusively powerful in Mana Drain decks.
You can find that list by simply searching Manuel Zanella Landstill

Wow this deck is good. I think I need to play this kind a deck for a week so that I could PROPERLY do the kill and avoid errors. Very sophisticated and sweet in a way.
P.S. Be compassionate with your opponent, make this weaker! >.<

+1 for Best Deck Popularity Contest.

Danke schoen Mashitta, and I warn you, Doomsday will never be quite simple. Every single time you make a pile, even though the ideas are the same, you have to take so much into consideration that a lot of people don't find it worth the bother. However, the things your opponent will say when watching you play Doomsday are priceless.
I'll start being compassionate with my opponent the day people stop playing Stax in Vintage, final offer.

And I actually didn't think anybody would vote for me in that, cool, seems like right now I'm just behind Sure and DeathTyrant @_@

Oh you have a good chance to be at least 3rd place. There must be a price here, like free basic lands or something. But this deck should appear in the front page to inform people how heartless you are.
;p

I'm kind of shocked, I just threw this out there because it seemed like something to do. I'm flattered you think I have a shot at being third, and I'm also flattered that I actually seem to have that chance.
I definitely don't need people getting free lands in Vintage, even basics. Even one mana extra, and things go insane. It's pretty much why the original moxxen are banned.

And once more, I'm flattered you think this belongs on front page, but this isn't my cruelest deck :P I', not sure what would be, but I'm interested in asking Sure if he still has the spreadsheet from the Evil Challenge.

Woot~ You Won 3rd place on the Deck Popularity Contest. Told ya ^,~. Though I think you should have been at least 2nd place. And possible 1st place? No prize though. >.< Congrats!

Heheh, danke schoen Mashitta! And I don't think this deck would be deserving of first or second place, as while this deck is faster, the two decks in those slots had been Extraction, which is the natural enemy of combo. Plus, Sure and DeathTyrant have helped more people than I have, and with those decks alone they showed many people a new way to look at magic. Something that I can't really offer with this, because while Doomsday is fun, it's not really anything that drastically different :/

I'm always happy to see your comments Mashitta, it's nice to see that there's people out there who enjoy my builds as much as I do. ^-^ And I don't know if you like ponies or not, so double links I guess.

Well damn, two decks on front page. I guess I should do something special, since this hasn't happened in a long time. I'm not sure what, but I will do something.
