why add filgree sages though they just dont seem to fit i think youd be better off adding some counterspells like negate or deprive

so he can go infinite with khalni gem and training grounds. You would need a way to use that mana though, leveling everybody up is fine and dandy, but an infinite martial coup is much classier :)

That wouldn't work because it costs 2 colorless and a blue to activate the sages ability. The training grounds would make it cost the single blue but the gem only produces one mana of any color. Now spawnsire of ulamog and training grounds make for a much better combo bcause the training grounds make the spawnsire's ability cost only 1. So you sac one of the 2 guys you get from his ability to get another colorless mana to activate his ability into infinity.
the gem produces two mana of any one color. infinite blue mana.
