-1 -1 counters are used in combo with Kulrath Knight, and Crumbling Ashes. Crumbling Ashes destroys one creature with a -1 -1 counter. And Kulrath Knight's effect keeps all creatures with -1 -1 counters from attacking or blocking. Grim Poppet is used in combo with Torture. Use Torture to put -1 -1 counters on him which he can then move to any creature you want. Midnight Banshee's effect puts -1 -1 counters on any nonblack creatures. If you have a Crumbling Ashes, or Kulrath Knight out, it makes all nonblack creatures unable to attack or block, and one of them is put in the graveyard during your upkeep. Smolder Initiate's effect gives you the oppurtunity to deal 1 damage to target player everytime a black spell is played. However it costs 1 colorless mana, and is not a -1 -1 counter. Soul Snuffers are used more or less when your low on creatures and your opponent has many. When it comes into play each creature on the field gets a -1 -1 counter. Blowfly Infestation, if a creature (yours or your opponents) with a -1 -1 counter is put in the graveyard you may put one -1 -1 counter on target creature. This card is a good combo with Ashling the Extinguisher's effect of whenever Ashling does damage to a player he/she must sacrafice target creature of your choice.
