Deck Description

Named this deck as such because, well, i cant think of a catchy name for the deck and i remembered this movie lol. and it also goes for the theme of the deck i guess as the deck is land destruction, and without lands, the opponents are stuck with doing nothing so i guess this names suits the deck well. feel free to suggest other names. lol

Anyway, i have been a big fan of land destruction decks since i started playing magic since i like the way the opponents gets annoyed for doing nothing while playing and you can do almost anything you want. Also i like the way you have to decide critically what to do in every turn and you don't have to wait to much to be aggressive like other control decks.

Sadly, when i returned playing magic a few months ago, there were no more good or only a few cards exists in standard to create a competitive land desturction deck. With the help of NPH and your help, i would like to create a competitive land destruction deck that would compete against caw-blade, valakut, or whatever tier 1 decks are being played in standard right now. Im not sure if this will really work but for me, building decks that may or may not be successful excites me better than playing the game itself, though playing the deck is necessary to know if it will be successful. lol.

Other cards im considering are:
lodestone golem - for a 4cc 5/3 creature, it is pretty good, also with it increasing the mana cost of each non artifact spells, it will be even harder for the enemy to cast spells.
gaea's revenge - a good big creature after controling the first few turns of the enemy while ramping, when this comes out, even if the opponent has a few lands already, it may be already too late to stop this.
garruk wildspeaker, a good acceleration for the deck and also can produce 3/3 tokens that you can trade for the tokens you give the opponent via beast within.
chandra nalaar - a good creature killer and a good alternative win condition.

help me what best cards i could have in this deck. the general idea is to kill a land in turn 2 preferrably and to be able to consistently control the tempo of the game. i need to get the numbers right.

dont know if this will be enough, right now i have
20 land destruction spells including 6 creatures that can destroy lands and 2 surgical extractions that could remove nonbasic land cards from the graveyard an all copies of that card.
14 ramp cards including 8 creatures and 6 spells.
6 burn spells for early control of creatures.

Deck discussion for The Day the Earth Stood Still T2

i really like this idea but ur not really ramping up to anything. I like gaea's revenge to b the final killer and garruk to add more creatures. Lodestone golem would also be a nice finishing touch as it has decent power and also slows down opponents.

I would personally get rid of nest invader as it doesn't really do anything and like 2 beast within for 2 Gaea's and 2 Lodestone

thank you for your suggestions. now that i think of it, i forgot to put something that i should be ramping for. i put ramp cards because the old build i have lavaball trap in the main deck and have a terra stomper. what do you think will be better as a finisher, terrastomper or gaea's revenge. id like to keep the beast within as a set because it helps me to destroy lands as early as possible. :D

the beasts withins is a personal choice.

The wolfbriar elemental is a great idea. i would have 2 terra stompers (thats better than gaea's as its cheaper and has better toughness and trample) and 4 wolfbriars for the nest invaders and others

another fun combo for land destruction is to use liquimetal coating in combination with crush/any artifact destruction
also you missed melt terrain when making this deck :P
i would suggest you add in some techtonic edge, but thats up to you

my standard land destruction deck is here: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=177131
also i might add you have the element of surprise in that no one expects a standard deck to be land destruction :P

i also considered liquimetal coating in the deck though i think that it is strong and fast, as it can destroy a land in t2, i still think that it aint as consistent as having a pure land destruction deck because you still have to draw the liquimetal for the combo to work and the only R/G card that can help search for it is ancient stirrings(not sure if this is the only one). i agree with melt rain though, i was kinda torn between demolish and melt rain. i also thought of tectonic edge but then i decided not to put it since im consistently destroying their lands, so i guess tectonic edge's ability would not activate

yeah, i run 2 liquimetal main deck normally and 2 side deck if i am against a deck where I can afford to do that
My deck really does the best in matchups where it is vs control decks, it thrives at those, but i find liquimetal as almost a subtheme improves the deck
I really don't rely on liquimetal, but just find it helpful I guess
also, all the artifact destruction tends to really annoy opponents, and they never understand it until they see liquimetal :P
And yeah with techtonic edge it really is a personal choice, lol

yah i guess tectonic is really based on preference. maybe i could try putting liquimetal in the sideboard and some artifact destroyer plus the demolish on my MD then surprise my enemy after sideboarding with the combo. lol.

After looking at your deck i would consider running the anti-artifact combo with naturalize/shatter/crush with liquid metal coating and turn their lands into artifacts and kill them that way. Most of this was stated above, but thats the only thing I can think of at the moment; unless you started running the tectonic edge which destroys non-basic lands.

thank you for your suggestion but i dont really like running the liquimetal coating as it is very inconsistent ( for me) because you have to draw liquimetal first for the combo to be able to work. also, it is very easy to stop if you draw it pretty late. also memoricide, and surgical extraction would be a nightmare for it. i want to make a land destruction deck that is very consistent, has an early start and very reliable during late games. im not really sure with tectonic edges as will because im not really a fan of sacrificing lands to destroy lands of the opponent. also as i am consistently destroying the opponent's lands, tectonic edge's ability will never trigger.

i made an update to my old constructed deck with everyones advices so far and from advices that i got from other sites as well. i replaced demolish with noxious revival as i was convinced that it is a very flexible card because it can get me anything that i have used so far depending on what i need on board. also replaced wolfbriar elemental into an inferno titan as i think it is more of a threat and has a better abiblity. also added garruk for additional ramp and for creating 3/3 tokens that would replace my wolfbriar elemental.

Lastly, im considering of replacing my explore and cultivate into more aggressive creatures or more land destruction spells though im not sure if this would help my deck. i really like the land advantage and card advantage that explore does early game though maybe i could use other cards that would help me become more of a threat. what do you guys think? feel free to give your suggestions

Inferno titan is cool addition, as is noxious revival. but i think losing some of the ramp cards would not be a great idea, but that's a personal desicion
