MTG Vault needs to give incent..

by Zamfir on 13 July 2010

Main Deck (1 card)

Enchantments (1)

Sideboard (0 cards)

No sideboard found.

The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

There is literally no reason for my to critique peoples decks, though I do sometimes. All these decks go down the new deck list without a simple, "take this out" or "nice deck"

I feel there needs to be some sort of system to will give players the incentive to help others.

Deck discussion for MTG Vault needs to give incentives to critique.

I agree so much

I agree too.

I think ways to fix this would be adding the ability to rate the comments themselves. From these comments you could give players different a "score" from the total of their comments.

Then what MTG vault needs to do is work out an agreement with one of the online card dealers. If a player reaches a certain amount of points, they get a small amount of "credit" to spend at that retailer's store. The business would bring lots of new buyers for the store, and it would make MTG vault very popular.

I know its a bit crazy, but you won't solve a problem without throwing out solutions. :)

I have been thinking of this for a little while, and I couldn't think of anything, but this site used to be much more active, with helpful knowledgable players. I don't know what happened haha.

I just think activity from comments should be #1 priority.

I wholeheartedly agree. The few times I've been involved in an actual exchange of deckbuilding ideas were really helpful and constructive. But these discussions need to happen WAY more often.

Maybe there should be a mandatory comment to go along with rating decks. Not like that'd solve the problem, but it could help.

they could run it like a forum or something. with every good comment their could be chances to get points or something. on the one forum me and zamfir are on. their is a reputation point thing. if have a good post, people can choose to give you a reputation point. then the points can show up on our statuss or something. im rating this deck 10. good synergy.

I like the idea Hipponox but what I would really like to see is some reasoning behind the person rating the deck whether it is good or bad.

It is also very nice to still see that people like you are still around.

Thanks tomathan88 but to tell you the truth there are others with more decks than either me or Cakins on this site but they haven't posted a deck in ages sadly enough.

Maybe they could add a "Found Helpful" button in each comment box, so people could rate comments (sorta see how many people give it a thumbs up or something). Then if someone accumulates a certain % of "Found Helpful' comments, they could have a little thing next to their name that shows they are a useful contributor. Sorta like the system on Yahoo Answers

I'm liking the idea of a "Found Helpful" button.

I agree to. I'll post a deck on here wanting help from people who may have possibly built a deck like mine and I never get a single comment.

I agree here. For me, as an amateur MTG player, the reason for me uploading the decks that I create here is for help and inspiration. Unfortunately, my knowledge of the cards available in the MTG universe is very limited so the decks I build are just off limited knowledge. Rather than trawl the deck and build what seems to be the most popular tournament winning decks of the moment, I prefer to come up with my own ideas and inspiration, and of course any input from other fellow magic players can only help to improve what I am currently playing with. Although I only play at casual level (albeit against my friends who only ever build and play tournament decks) that little extra input might be just enough to give a smile to my face when I finally scupper their third turn kill deck and make them think about things a little more so some form of critique is always appreciated.

Perhaps some form of Kudos, or rating system for peoples comment so they can build up some kind of user score would provide inspiration?

seeing as you guys want people to comment. why dont we just comment and not expect something in return? XD we cant expect them to do something without us giving them something in return right? what could we offer them as an incintive to do what we ask?

i agree with t3stbug when more experienced players build decks the less experienced guys can go look at the decks they,ve built and get ideas (just dont plaguirize) but for the more experienced deckbuilders there is no help from less experienced so really less experienced just want it to be easier for themselves by experienced guys commenting on there decks but there is nothing you can offer them which is why we see less and less of this in otherwards as already said by bug
WHAT COULD WE OFFER THEM?

When I was much more active, back in december, jan, feb, the boards were a ghost town, that is why I decided to post it here. I thought more people would see it.

Also, I often comment people to help their decks if they ask for it. I ask nothing for return, but I am just 1 person.

I also post decks for help, and get none. Why should I help people that ask for it, but get none in return. Not getting help does not stray me away from helping others though, it would just be nice for someone other than hipponox, my IRL friend, to help me with deck construction.

Totally agree. It is rather upsetting when you post a deck that you want help with, just for it to be completely ignored. It would be cool if you got help points or something, and the person with the most wins a prize - a booster pack maybe.

I Agree. Two many times decent decks go down the list without even a single comment. I think I speak for 99% of people when I say that the whole reason for putting your deck up is because you want others to look at it and appreciate it. Why else would you use this site. (If that's not the reason Just use pen & paper to write your decklist)

In reality everyone wants their deck fairly ranked against every other deck. Does anyone ever wish you could challenge anyone's deck with any of your own so your deck could finally win that honour and prestige it truly deserves? There must be some way of doing it without WotC getting their knickers in a twist.

Perhaps if you own the deck on MTGO there could be a way that you could say that on your deck page( leaving people to write it isn't enough) and make a search were only decks that are on MTGO appear, inviting everyone else who has a deck on MTGO to challenge it.

But dreaming aside the most sensible straight-forward solution I can think of is a common place where people advertise that they want comments on a particular deck in exchange that they give a comment to someone else's deck. Some way to enforce that a fair exchange happens may also be prudent but probably not necessary.

PS I can perfectly understand why Zamfir posted it here and not on the forums it was clever and it gets more people to comment. I might do the same myself in future it obviously works.

Anyway guys if you want me to give your deck a comment I definitely will. I've been playing 11 years although I've not entered a tournament. My favourite format is legacy. If in return you could comment on this deck http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=73651 I would much appreciate that as well. It seems like quite an original deck as i haven't come across anyone that had the same idea.

i think mtg vault should have a collum on the profile that shows the rating of each of your decks so you dont have to click into each one. i have four pages, so its hard.

I can tell you most of the posting I get on my decks is just people saying they like it. I so rarely actually get any useful comments. I don't even post most of my decks here since not a single person comments.
