Deck Description

This deck's primary focus is life gain and life drain. I am just starting to play Magic so this deck is only using cards that I have via Oath of the Gatewatch and Battle for Zendikar.

I would love feedback on the deck. I wont be adding older cards from anything before Battle for Zendikar because I want this deck to grow as I grow and learn to play. I only want to play in standard format for now. So I dont expect this to be a competitive deck, but I do still want it to work and have fun playing it.

I filtered all the cards in the Zendikar/Gatewatch sets to only ones that have life gain and life drain abilities. I decided not to focus on Rally/Allies. But if I had to pick, I would say the secondary focus would be Rally.

So I would welcome any feedback on how I can use Zendikar and Gatewatch cards to improve this deck's life gain/drain abilities. I also welcome helpful tips on which order to play these cards and how to deal with the overlapping synergies.

How to Play

Ideally you would start off on turn 2:

Turn 2: play Ondu War Cleric.
Turn 3: play Vampire Envoy. At the end of the opponent's turn: TAP the Cleric in order to tap the Envoy and gain 2 life then 1 life for a total of 3 life gained
Turn 4: play Bloodbond Vampire, and tap the cleric/envoy again. Now the bloodbond should be a 5/5. this should be enough to make most players hesitant to attack next turn with creatures. Now they will start using removals and things to break the synergy.

From here on out you keep leapfrogging the synergies. Maybe turn 5 after they play their removals to get rid of at least the bloodbond then you could play a Retreat the Hagra followed by your land for that turn and then hold your 2 remaining land for an immolating glare. Or just play a cutthroat or serene steward or something.

Still working out all the most appropriate ways to play through the hands via the various synergies. The defiant bloodlord is for late game assuming you still have some lifegain synergies still on the board.

For example: a Zulaport Chainmage tapping a Vampire Envoy to trigger a Defiant Bloodlord is less effective than a Ondu War Cleric tapping a Vampire Envoy to activate a Defiant Bloodlord. But if you take the Defiant Bloodlord out of that equation then the Chainmage is more effective than the war cleric.
