Deck Description

"She's tilting pretty sharply bitchward!"-Gallivant Jester

The above quote is how I feel every time I upgrade this deck. Gisa started as a precon with another commander back in 2014. She has been upgraded and tweaked so much that it's not similar at all to the original deck. I love this deck since it's my first commander ever, it runs some of my favorite cards, and it's in my favorite color.

The main commander Ghoulcaller Gisa, can be switched out with the other Gisa card for variety but less optimized play. I thought about doing some other commanders as secondary options but none have really spoken to me.

Gisa use to run Grave Pact and Dictate of Erubos but I noticed I never tutored for those cards or got a chance to play them much. Plus when I did get them they were usually taken care of right away. So they were cut.

I had slightly different setups depending on if I was playing 1v1, Kitchen Table, or 2HGEDH. I like to be aware of the different power levels of the deck so she won't steam roll people. But I don't bother with that anymore. Someone said it could make the wrong impression or people might think I am doing the opposite.

Mainly, I don't do semi/infinite combos and less tutors for casual games. However, I found out I had more synergy and infinite combos than I originally realized! So it's becoming harder to nerf her for kitchen table.

Unfortunately, it's impossible to have this deck be free of those sorts of combos without removing a lot more cards than I would like. Simply taking out Tutors is a quick way to calm her down lol. There are 6 tutors which I replace with the 4 artifacts in my sideboard section and 2 swamps.

I did remove the Mikaeus+Putrid Goblin combo, and the Mikaeus+Trisk/Balistica combo. Without Mikaeus I can keep my mana cost down, and I removed his combo pieces since they didn't synergize as well as I would like with the other cards.

Note about power level:
I don't consider this deck CEDH at all. I'm sure a CEDH deck would stomp her. She's mono colored, not a drop of blue, and kind of predictable. I don't even see a way for this deck to win before turn 7 on average. I think this deck would fall more into the optimized category.

Note about Game play:
I will have to start paying attention to see at which point this deck becomes a threat, and also the average of how much she wins and by which turn. I just don't get to play her as often anymore because I think she is too fast for most of the kitchen table play groups I play with.

Note about Cards:
I also thought about adding Ad Nauseum but I didn't like the mana cost and it's unpredictable nature. But with the low mana cost of the other cards it would probably be okay. So I got it and I'm going to try it out a bit first.

Note about Other cards:
I had a few black dragons in the deck but removed them to lower the mana cost so she would be faster. I'm thinking of adding them back in as replacements for tutors in order to slow the deck. The dragons could also replace some true infinite combo pieces. But this is a maybe.

Note about Purchasing:
I plan to buy Diamond Valley as soon as my other decks have been upgraded. That is the only card missing.

How to Play

Basically, you want to make as many zombies with Gisa but not keep them around too long. Attack and then sac them for draw, mana, life, or to trigger abilities. It's a pretty forward deck so I won't get into do much detail.

With cards that give you mana for sacrifices, having a lot of creatures is great. Sac them all to trigger aristocrat cards like Vengeful dead, make treasure tokens with pitiless plunder, or get mana. There are also combos to sac infinite numbers of times. Now you are dealing damage and getting mana. Use it to cast a bunch of stuff. Luckily this deck has a ton of draw.

I use to pump the mana into spirit creatures, exanginate, and torment of hellfire but the other combos I have work just as well and my Zombies are usually pretty beefy.

I had Phyrexian Obliterator in the deck as a blocker, as well as some flying zombies but with how much life I get I'm okay without having much defense. I just got to kill my opponent faster.

Eldrazi Monument was in the deck to make my Zombies scarier, harder to kill and give them flying but I found I never tutor for it.

Phyrexian Dreadnought 12/12. Cast it and quickly sac it with Gisa for 12 zombies. Plus it's a creature so it's easy to do this again and again. I checked the rules for this one.

I try not to get greedy with a huge army. I don't want an army that is big enough to kill me if stolen or they each get to hit me. Plus if there is a board wipe I don't want to lose much. I would rather have them destroyed by my hands.

For it to be more competitive I would probably need to add in protection for Gisa. In regards to that point...this deck can totally win without even playing my commander but she is fun to play. Still I don't see the point in taking up spell slots to protect her since I can win just as easily without her.

I could maybe also lower it's power level by switching the commander. I'm not sure how much lower that will drop the deck because the deck works great without even casting my commander.
