Deck Description

Terravore eats things!

Destroy lands, feed Terravore. Opponents have little or no mana, so they discard, feeding the other critters you have. Power play = Urborg, crack a fetch land to fetch a fetch land until you have all 8 in your graveyard, the last fetch land fetches a dual land or a Wasteland/Stripmine to kill off another land, in the end giving Terravore +10/+10. Profit!

If things work right, your opponent will only get out small 1 mana cost critters. Rancid Earth + Threshold should take care of them. If not, you got Putrefy and Damnation. Use Crucible of Worlds to re use Wasteland/Stripmine or fetchlands to get something useful.

Deck discussion for Compost Pile

Great deck, but unrealistic and your sideboard is 7 cards short. Otherwise, you've got some nice deck building skills.

Thanks. Define unrealistic? What's unrealistic about it? The side board does need work, just wasn't sure what to put in it.

This is by far probably the best land killer deck I have seen in awhile. It seems like you actually thought things through and planned the deck out with a real strategy, rather than just throwing in a bunch of crap land destruct cards. Seeing how you are already running power nine and sinkhole, you should keep up the old school theme and ditch winters grasp for ice storm. $$$!

Hi Alchamire,

Land destruction is a sort of odd beast. It can do well against lots of types of decks but it loses power the more your opponent has access to alternative mana production like moxes, mana creatures, and cast for free spells. My experience has taught me that the really evil mana denial decks aren't really about destroying land, but tend to be more about limiting the number of actions the opponent may do, decks that use cards like Stasis and Winter orb to lock the opponent down.

What I'm saying in a round about way is adding cards like Trinisphere and Winter Orb to your deck along with some means to tap and untap them on your turn like Relic barrier and Voltaic key can often make a land destruct deck stronger.

Another alternative is to add some hand destruct to also severely limit the opponent's options.
Adding Hypnotic Spector and Hymn to Tourach sometimes strengthen a land destruct deck.

Finally, I've always like Avalanche Riders to land destruct decks but it may not be to your taste.

root maze could be nice to shut off the land they get to play, maelstrom pulse is another peutrefy.

trinisphere is another good card to think about

Fetch lands can't fetch other fetch lands. They can only search for lands with either of the two basic land types; for example Marsh Flats can only fetch lands that have Swamp or Plains as a land type (basics, Scrublands, Godless Shrine). Wasteland, Urborg, Strip Mine, and other fetches don't have those types, so you can't use fetch lands to go and get them.
