Deck Description

The devour mechanic came out just as I was getting into magic and it was definitely not my thing. I couldn't justify getting rid of creatures for just one tough one. I revisited it now that I have had a bit more time to let it sink in and I think I get it.

Eldrazi tokens work great with devour because of the versatility as managen or food and Surewhynot had a really good call with "Fresh Meat", which has great synergy in this deck. There are a few hiccups though. I think I added too much land fetch and I ran into budget problems with the mycoloths. I had to end up cutting an awakening zone as a result. This deck also really needs to ramp tokens quicker.

As always suggestions are appreciated but please remember the budget.

Deck discussion for Devour [Budget: $10]

Wondering if it would work better simply being mono green. Also, I know it might eat up (no pun intended) a sizable chunk of the budget, Mycoloth is an outstanding card for any devour deck, and you could work 2 in with enough remaining budget to make a pretty nifty devour deck =]

Oh, I didn't know that others could see my WIP decks. I'll need to remember to flesh out my thoughts and stop making junk decks to keep track of things.

I actually have 3 mycoloths in my possession so adding them in wouldn't kill my budget, I forget why I was trying to steer clear of using them though. This is what happens when I start decks then get distracted. As for mono-green, I was going to try to splash more eldrazi spawn gen in there and red is the best bang for the buck. Furthermore, are there any other green devour cards worth a mention? To my understanding, all the best devour was in red.

Hrm, well it's good you have the Mycoloths already, but you're right...there's not to many good Devour creatures in general, and they're mostly G/R if not mono-R =/

I've always been a fan of Gluttonous Slime for various combat tricks as well as for defense if someone decides to Pyroclasm your 1/1 munchies. Fresh Meat is another possibility (not sure it's price) for this kind of thing. Devour crap, play Fresh Meat, get lots of bigger dudes in return.

As for Eldrazi spawns, the best you can get from green is Nest invader (amazing), Awakening Zone, and Kozilek's Predator. Red does offer a number of good ways to get them in too, and probably for a lower price =]

Oh, and people can only see your WIP decks if they look on your profile =]

Good call on the Fresh Meat. It really works well here. I am really not sure about the mycoloths though but they will stay until a better option comes along. I opted away from Gluttonous slime as it only really helped me if my critters were under threat. Otherwise he would be a bit of a dud as I would be using my fodder for better devours. Wasn't sure about Predator either because all that really concerns me is the tokens and there are cheaper alternatives to get them out, however, he is looking like a better alternative to Mycoloth. I may swap um at some point.

I think this deck really suffers from a lack of devour cards. Options are too limited to get creative. =/ Sadly I am at a loss as to what more I can do here.
