Deck Description

An edit of my previous attempt after testing.

Original Deck: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=208194
I wrote that description when I was really tired...

After playing the deck a couple times I noticed a few things. First, Inquisition is freaking awesome, and Duress comes pretty close. It really didn't matter what I was playing against, screwing up they're early tempo was huge for me. Second, Lashwrithe is a major bomb. It was unbelievable virtually every time it was out. The times it wasn't it got destroyed. The two forests made no difference in any of the games I played. Third, Gatekeeper and Cadaver Imp was exactly as irritating as I thought it would be.

However, some cards just weren't exciting. Namely, all the mythics. Sheoldred in particular was disappointing, as games fell either into the 'Sheoldred is overkill' or 'I'm screwed regardless' categories. Obliterator might as well have been a four cost spellskite the way he ate removal. Making sure that Bloodlord hit 6/6 wasn't hard, but his 6/6 body was never terribly relevant either. As the deck itself is slow, Grave Titan was usually an unhelpful dream.

The stand out surprises? Cadaver Imp and Vengeful Pharaoh. Cadaver Imp with Gatekeeper was expected, but to be good on it's own? The fact that the Imp could be played bringing back itself, the sacced and repeated was awesome. But even more so, the fact that it could eat Inkmoth Nexuses was crucial is many games. I suppose Squadron Hawks should have told me how this would work (add Lashwrithe for a finish from nowhere to make the comparison even better).

Vengeful Pharaoh was even more surprising. I thought I'd want to sac it pretty much as soon as it hit the field, but it had some great staying power. Its deathtouch was totally brutal, making titans balk. The best part? It was totally the opposite of Obliterator, the Pharaoh ate VERY little removal. The five damage was underestimated often, and his second ability made several foes avoid it for the two for one. Even better, with birthing pod I never cared about drawing him again. In fact, he stopped me from drawing things I'd rather pod out.

So what does the deck NEED?
-Solemn Simulacrum. The deck is slow and a little land hungry. Six-seven is really about the best place to be so you can pod, cast an Imp and use/cast Lashwrithe. While pod naturally gets you more land, the Simulacrum gives more consistency. I hope.

-Another Inquisition right away in the main board. And...

-More main board removal. I thought counters and such would be more of a pain than fast decks. I was totally wrong. Balls to the wall U/G infect stomps me harder than I'd like to admit.

-Something to deal with artifacts/enchantments. And this is the hardest part of my day. Acidic Slime would be prefect. The idea of casting it is so awful I can barely believe it. I really don't want to try, but it would be so freaking good...Beast Within is the second choice...I'm not a fan for this deck, but it's total removal. P.S. Maelstrom Pulse please.

Deck discussion for 'Mono' Black Birthing Pod

I play a more regular mono black control deck but this has certainly got my attention. I'd love to know how your new version fairs. A little advice I can give would be against those stupid infect decks you mentioned, you may want to consider siding despise to take out duress. The decks usually run less creatures in favor of pump so if you take out the target it'll let the game last a tad longer haha. but anyway freat deck
