Once enough merfolk in play can tap 7 to counter.Muddle the mixture helps to bring other cards to hand or counter.Pearl Trident/Reejerey to bump merfolk and attack with island walk. Tideshaper to oblige. Cold-Eyed Selkie for card draw.Reejeray + Æther Vial to bring a merfolk in, untap Æther Vial, rinse and repeat. Also combo's nicely with Kiora's final ability.

nice :-) but doesn't fit the merfolk theme :-(
No, it doesn't, but it does allow Lullmage Mentor to produce menfolk for every spell the opponent attempts to play.
If you can produce enough menfolk to use Lullmage Mentor's second ability, Intruder Alarm would be good.
