The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Submit a list of cards below to bulk import them all into your sideboard. Post one card per line using a format like "4x Birds of Paradise" or "1 Blaze", you can even enter just the card name by itself like "Wrath of God" for single cards.

Deck Description

If you're looking for a fun and powerful Tribal deck with heavy synergy / tricks, you've found the right deck. U/W Wizards shuts down the board in the early game using countermagic and efficient spot-removal. Powerful search spells like Sage of Epityr and Ponder can set up the late-game lock.

When Wizards with powerful "comes-into-play" abilities (such as Meddling Mage and Sage of Epityr) resolve, they usually sit on the board as mediocre attackers & blockers. U/W Wizards, on the other hand, takes full advantage of these "idle" creatures by using them, for example, as sacrificial engines for Voidmage Prodigy. Furthermore, Patron Wizard can use them as permanent resources and create a ridiculous countermagic engine that stays on the board, denying opponents every spell they try to play.

Magus of the Moat and Meloku the Clouded Mirror, although slightly more costly, will wreck entire decks by themselves. Having trouble with Naya and Jund Aggro builds? A single Magus (protected from removal and such by your heavy countermagic) prevents these decks from attacking at all. Furthermore, Magus serves as fuel for the Patron Wizard / Voidmage Prodigy lock.

Meloku is a devestating late-game sweeper. When Patron Wizard - with a whole board of Wizard creatures - allows you to counter spells for absolutely no mana, Meloku replaces useless lands with a flying legion capable of bypassing your own Magus of the Moat lock.

Riptide Laboratory adds a finishing touch to U/W Wizards Tribal. When you're looking for Meloku the Clouded Mirror or Patron Wizard, Riptide Laboratory lets you to recur Sage of Epityr as many times as you like - essentially allowing you to dig four cards deep into your deck per turn. The Laboratory also bounces key creatures away from removal spells like Doom Blade and Lightning Bolt.

I've put a lot of effort into perfecting this Tribal build, so enjoy the deck! Comments and questions are more than welcome.

Thanks,

Azen

Deck discussion for U/W Wizards

First of all, you don't need condemn and mana leak. Use Force of will instead. I would add (as I do in my wizard deck) cathartic adept to negate library rearanging and tutoring. You need something to draw cards. I suggest using Azami if you want and Oona, queen of the fae is more usefull than Meloku. Since you run white as a side color, stonybrook schoolmaster is a good creature to add wizard tokens you can use for patron. But it can run as it is, I just give you ideas. I also have a wizard deck although solid blue. I just posted it so take a look at it here if you want: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=25538. Enough said!

Hi Scywalker,

Thanks for your advice. I don't think I made this clear when I first constructed my Wizards deck, but I am on a budget and cannot afford "Force of Will." Yes, I know how powerful FOW is in Eternal formats. On the other hand, I'm not sure how common FOW is in Casual formats (as this deck is listed under, if you noticed).

I'd like to point out that a smart player would anticipate Cathartic Adept and plan ahead with rearrangement spells such as Ponder & Brainstorm. Regardless, your other suggestions are very good. I did consider draw spells like "Azami, Lady of Scrolls" and even "Fact or Fiction" when I first constructed U/W Wizards tribal, but ignored them due to their high mana costs. Then again, I may have been wrong. Do you have any cheaper suggestions for draw spells? Keep in mind that I DID test "Brainstorm" quite extensively - but picked Ponder over it because Brainstorm was unable to deal with the dead clumps of cards that occasionally showed up on top of my library.

I run Meloku in my deck because of its synergies with Magus of the Moat, which shuts down many Aggro builds in Casual formats. However, I can substitute both cards with your above suggestions. I never considered Oona, Queen of the Fae or Stonybrook Schoolmaster. And you are very right about their synergies and strengths.

I'll take a look at your own Wizards build. Thanks again for the suggestions,

Azen

Another way to draw cards, cheaper by one mana only, is Riptide Director but is less valuable than Azami in the metagame and late game because you can't control it. If you must have noticed that I also use 4 Sonybrook bannerets. This creature can speed up things quite a bit. Consider adding them. One card I love is Wing shards and can replace condemn pretty well if you don't want to remove it completely. It's two more mana but has more versatility and can surely target more than one creatures in each use pretty easily. I also posted an answer on your comments if you want to take a look at it. It's realy nice to see wizard based decks and I love it when i see them. But what I like the most is discuss about wizard deck strategies and synergies.

Hi catfish36216,

Summer break's only days from over and I still have to catch up on some studying. I don't think I'll be able to post on MTG Vault unless I find some free time over a break or something. Sorry about that.
