The owner of this deck hasn't added a sideboard, they probably should...

Deck Description

This deck is modeled off of Kai Budde's "Covetous Wildfire" build from 1999. It uses the strongest (and, I will admit, some of the most broken) elements of mana acceleration in conjunction with powerful global removal. Because the mana engine is almost entirely artifact-based (save City of Traitors & Ancient Tomb), WMD's mana base is immune to its own removal.

Your objective as the WMD pilot is to flood the board with powerful spells like Gilded Lotus, Mana Vault, and Grim Monolith in the first two or three turns. With a strong mana base, cast one of WMD's "Wildfire" effects (such as Devastation and Wildfire itself). On the following turn, as your opponent struggles to recover from a board empty of lands and creatures (and he/she may even concede at this point), cast Covetous Dragon and/or Sundering Titan with your previous Gilded Lotuses, Thran Dynamos, etc. and swing for a quick win.

The beauty of this deck is its ability to wreck most Aggro, Control, & Combo decks all at once. Pyroclasms are in my build because I play against Aggro decks a lot. If you're against Control decks heavy with counterspell disruption, substitute Devastation for Decree of Annihilation (as the Cycling effect can't be countered).

Some of the key pieces to this deck are very expensive. I built it because I had purchased Kai Budde's 1999 "Covetous Wildfire" deck years ago, which came with City of Traitors, Ancient Tomb, Covetous Dragon, Grim Monolith, and Wildfire.

Because Devastation isn't in MTG Vault's card database, I included it in the Deck Description. Hope you enjoy the deck! Comments are more than welcome.

Deck discussion for WMD - A Weapon of Mass Destruction

If your worried about counterspells, run Volcanic Fallout instead of Pyroclasm. Also, Covetous Dragon could definantly be replaced. Also, if this is some kind of dream deck, you could always use Black Lotus.

Thanks Cakins. I'm not worried about countermagic, since it's not very common in my playgroup. I was offering an alternative choice for other players.

I run Covetous Dragon because I have four copies sitting around. Most Wildfire decks play Crater Hellion, which is probably a good choice.

Heh, just about any deck can use Black Lotus. This isn't really a dream deck because I have all of the cards (although I did get a majority of them from a 1999 World Championship deck). I think I covered this in the deck description.

Thanks for your tips!

Agreed with Cakins: since Mana Vault (and maybe Grim Monolith as well?) is banned, and you seem to be using it, you might as well use Black Lotus.

Heh, no problem. Thanks for the reminder. Mana Vault is very powerful and banned, but it is much more budget than Black Lotus. Budget is actually my only restriction when I build decks, since I don't play competitively.
