Deck Description

Creatures- Bloodwater Entity, Stormchaser Mage, and Riddleform are an interesting creature package. All of them are evasive threats with upside. Stormchaser mage smashes in fast with haste, Bloodwater Entity allows you to toolbox whatever cheap spell you have already cast, and Riddleform is a 3/3 flyer that dodges board wipes with the incidental ability to scry in the mid to late game. Especially useful when you are top decking in the late game. The Locust god is a late game hedge against the long game. With 8 one mana cantrips it can get out of hand pretty fast.

Burn- I chose Shock over Magma Spray here, mainly for the ability to burn our opponent. I have incendiary Flow as a great removal spell that exiles, or optional reach. Lastly, two copies of Collective Defiance. I originally had another one mana cantrip here in the form of Renegade Tactics, but I found I would consistently get my opponent down to three or less life and just needed that additional reach. Plus, wheeling a dead hand is some insurance against flooding, and is madness if you have The Locust God on the board.

Card Draw- The big card draw engine here is also the most controversial. Fevered Visions is the best card draw this low on the curve. I’ll be the first to admit that it is less awesome against aggressive match ups in game one, but absolutely punishes any other archetype. Two damage per turn might not seem like much, but it adds up really quick. It’s also really easy to board out in later games. I’m playing two play sets of one mana cantrips. First, Slip Through Space, is one blue mana to make one of our flyers unblockable. This card gives your already evasive threat a guaranteed hit, and replaces itself. The second spell is Crash Through. This new HOD card is a great one mana prowess trigger with even more evasion for those opposing flyers that also replaces itself. With both of these cantrips it’s not unusual for me to cast them with no creatures of my own to dig for an answer or that last bit of burn. Think of them as one mana cycling with upside.

Lands- This part is pretty straightforward. Spirebluff Canal is just awesome. Wandering Fumarole is just the best. It gets in sneaky damage, especially late game.

How to Play

This deck is a bit all in. Play your creatures fast and often. Use your cheap spells to stack those prowess triggers until your opponent dies. The following is some things to know about the main board.

Don’t worry too much about your opponents ground based creatures. Save your removal to keep the air clear. All of the threats you’re dropping have flying so you can pretty much just smash through. Obviously this isn’t a hard rule, as some ground creatures are worth bombing when your opponent is winning in a race.

Don’t be afraid to play those cantrip spells even if you have no cretures or you are targeting an opponent’s creature. Sometimes the one mana cycling is what you need to draw an answer or that extra couple points of burn. It also comes in handy with The Locust God.

Don’t be shy about trading that Wandering Fumorale with a creature. You either get in for four or you take down a threat. The curve in this deck is really low. You don’t need much mana to crush.

Sideboard-
3x Thing in the Ice- This guy is great against agro decks that are trying to get in fast as a strong blocker. He also flips to be a great finisher. With all the super low cost spells you can flip this guy in two turns. The flip effect is great against any deck that’s trying to go wide. Like U/W Monument.
1x Commit // Memory- Works well against a mill strategy. Which is popping up more and more in my meta.
2x Sweltering Suns- A great board wipe that Stormchaser Mage dodges automatically. Bloodwater Entity can dodge it pretty easily as well if you play any of the many one mana spells first.
1x Insult // Injury- Great for closing out games fast especially against more aggressive matches.
3x Abrade- It’s great removal in any format. Goodbye Torrential Gearhulk we knew you well.
1x Chandra’s Defeat- It kills anything but Hazoret. If you manage to kill a Chandra achievement unlocked.
2x Jace’s Defeat- A two mana counter spell for any control matchup, also pretty solid in the mirror.
2x Negate- Just a good counter spell, especially useful against Mill, GFG, or Plansewalker Control.
