Sphinx of Jwar Isle was one of my favorite cards from the original Zendikar. Sphinx of the Final Word is a complete upgrade for one more colorless mana. You still get a 5/5 Flying body, he has Hexproof so we can target him if we needed to and he lands whenever you cast him. In any type of mirror, he puts other control decks on a snail like pace. He was the original reason for making a budget friendly control that doesn't use planes walkers and the deck ended up being a sort of combo using Awaken, Myth Realised, Ojutai Monument, and Planar Outburst to get in for the win. The Sphinx and Linvala have proven to be bombs that can turn around a game.
You try to maintain control of the board for the first part of the game. You want to ideally land a Myth Realised early so that you can build up counters on it. Once you have the mana, you land a Planar Outburst (hopefully Awakened) and get you a 4/4, plus a solid Myth Realised and swing in for damage. The Sphinx has proven a ridiculous alternate win-con. He's hard to kill and once he lands he can eat away at the opponent. Linvala is also a solid card here. She can gain you life and give you a 3/3 Flying body. This deck is meant to be an effective control deck that is budget friendly and still fun to play. The sideboard is all based on your local meta.
