Red does have some existing cat options as well as the dog and cat naya legend!As per my previous comment on the dog list I was working on, this deck is a intro power level to be fought against the dog list. 3 colors can get pretty intimidating to newer players, but I think a good list would include Rin and Siri for all the extra values from the cast triggers!
I completely get it. When your friend gets more accustomed, then definitely add Rin and Siri!
Have you considered Fleecemane Lion? Even without monstrosifying it, it's a stupidly efficient card as a 3/3 for 2CMC.
