I am glad that one of my piddly little budget decks has inspired you! I have fallen in love with cipher over the past month an have build quite a few decks messing around with it; one very similar to this with Whispering Madness as the win con; paired with Elixir of Immortality and Psychic Spiral makes for some fun games.

LLOOOLLLL!!!! Thats sick!!! omg the frustration of playing against that thing. Im thinking of making a heroic deck around Trait Doctoring. U know, that 1 blue mana cipher card thats practically useless? Its a Heroic Engine along with Hidden Strings. Ive been wondering why it was so over-priced on rarity and I think its because of what it does with Heroic in this block.

Nivmagus Elemental should be in here somewhere for sure. You can exile the cipher copy whenever it triggers.

this deck is really lacking draw power...im not sure if whispering madness is strong enough...

If you cipher onto a dimir keyrune you can't keep the cipher onto it once it transforms back can you?

cipher stays on dimir keyrune as long as it was a creature first. :) It stays even when it transforms back.

Dude, that's epic. That just made my favorite keyrune even more loved.

cipher hidden strings on it and dimir keyrune pays for itself!

I've been messing with cipher and I've found a few things useful. (I have checked rulings on this too) First, trait doctoring can be used to change the type of basic land, effectively breaking opponents lands. Using hidden strings would go nicely with pain seer, or triggering agent of fates. Cipher stays on cards that Change being creatures, such as keyrunes. I've been trying to make izzet cipher using things like nivmagus elemental, guttersnipe, young Pyromancer, ect. Cipher seems very susceptible to any removal and lacks the draw power to compete against most aggro decks. Not to mention getting the initial hit once your opponent realizes how your deck functions. What I would not give for invisible stalker....

there's the link, cuz it's unlisted and it will be changing a lot while I experiment and balance it.

I think i'm going to build this deck tonight and play around with it. Considering the price, great job!

dont be afraid to target your own fortune hunter to trigger heroic. even if it means you'll Ultimate price it if the situation calls for it.

Interesting idea, I'll be playing some Magic with friends over the weekend so will see what it's like in casual play. Have you built this deck in RL?
