Deck Description

One of my friends was tinkering around with a standard 16 land RDW , and i decided to move it to modern. I was looking for card advantage for late game, and thought of bob *. however, i knew that running so few land in a two-color modern deck meant i would be taking 6+ damage off of fetches and shocks every game. And that's when i thought of Death's Shadow.
quick tangent: I LOVE suicide black. it has been and forever will be my favorite type of aggro. and so i've always felt that Death's Shadow, being the deity of suicide black, is not just AWESOME but underrated. and so, armed with a completely comakazi land base, i thought i'd give it a shot.
So here it is. 15 land modern suicide rakdos. i don't know modern's meta, so it may not be good, but it is incredibly fun to play. it has RDW's explosiveness, suicide black's ability to turn every game into a race, and the hilarious nonbos that are suddenly combos with death's shadow (hence deck name). this is quickly becoming my favorite deck of all time.
*bob was in the original list, but in playtesting i found that running 15 land rendered him too much of an investment for card advantage that didn't come immediately. so i dropped him in favor of three maruders and the final loyalist. however, back when i was running stomping ground for deathrite's third ability (dropped because never used that ability and being strip-mined by ghost quarter is terrible), warrior's lesson looked really nice. also the "new bob" (pain seer), being more agressive, might be good in this deck -- i'll give him a spin when he's printed.

How to Play

Play the deck for the highest DPS possible. unless there isn't anything else to do with your mana, deathrite/lavamancer should be the last cards out of your hand.
though shadow is almost never laid down before turn 4, it plays a key part in the deck, giving you the abilty to go toe-to-toe with goyfs, oozes and just about anything else out there. while shadow is not on the battlefield, keep life total in the double digits. when shadow hits the field, keep between 9 and 7, lower if needed.
the sb is janky due to little knowledge of the meta, but here's what i think: for combo/midrange/control, side in thoughtseizes to take out combo pieces/mass removal and just race. for decks running liliana/ooze/other ability-dependent monstrosities, swap in needles. for decks running lifegain, rain of gore. for decks running ooze/deathrite/shinanigans at 3> toughness, some number of lavamancers.

Deck discussion for Nonbo Combo

Ah how I love suicide Black, its strength is never fully attainable, and yet what it can put out is already enough to apply generous pressure on anything. Mixing it with RDW is an interesting option, and I feel it's probably one that I missed out before.

Despite all of my time with Black, and my forays into decks featuring Red, I have no idea what I'm doing with BR/Rakdos. I will however suggest considering some sort of graveyard hate, a popular deck now is a aggro-Loam derivative meant to use the Retrace mechanic in addition to the older ideas.

And in your SB, I think I'd go with Pithing Needle. Just because it produces less stress on your mana, and while it doesn't remove the source, it reduces the utility greatly.

yeah, parasite is out and needle is in. was actually thinking of swapping lavamancer and deathrite anyhow, which should make it more resilient to graveyard shinanigans. i really wanted to run surgical but there wasn't anything for me to drop, maybe i'll slide out 2 deathrite for 2 of them.
Thanks for the feedback!

Apply dominance over your opponent, while keeping life at low; Surgical Extraction. It will help Pithing Needle a good long way, because now you know what Planeswalker´s is in their deck and can exploit that T1 without Mana Accel.
Good job, sir =)

i've actually been trying to fit in surgical since the very beggining, just never could figure out what to drop. in the current build i guess it would take the place of the deathrites in the sb. my issue with surgical in this deck is that all it does is hate, where as deathrite can really bring a game home, providing unblockable damage to the dome. i hadn't cot the synergy with needle though, that's a good call. maybe i'll go with a split of some sort.
Thanks!

Maybe add sulfuric vortex or everlasting torment?

unfortunately sulfuric vortex isn't modern legal, so i cant use that. i was thinking about everlasting torment, but i found rain of gore to be better. it comes down a turn earlier, and though it doesn't give wither it hates on lifegain even more. wither is nice, but i find that if i need wither in order to kill their creatures, i'm going to be spending more than one card to kill one of theirs, and a game going like that i am going to lose anyway. so rain of gore fits better. good thoughts though, and thanks for the comment!
