The point of Desecration Demon is to provide a choice to the opponent. You can either:
A.) Sacrifice your creature to deal with the threat, only growing it
B.) Let it come in for 6 points of damage and deal with the threat after
Option A is why it's only a 4 drop, because it can do nothing but sit and grow if your opponent has a lot of creatures that he/she doesn't need and can just sacrifice to Desecration Demon.

Such an awesome card. Sure, you can sac a creature and tap him and add a counter. Now you're just delaying the inevitable
