Deck Description

Trying to build a U/B control deck that is actually competitive at the FNM level. course at my local shop, theres normally at least 10 people running whichever decks placed 1st-3rd at the last Pro competition. I look to control the early game through hand and mana disruption. Mid game play a sweeper such as Infest or Consume the Meek, and then drop a Jace. Next play one of my creatures for protection, or swinging if able. this deck looks like it can win through damage, but i built it with the main win con being jace. your input would be appreciated. thank you.

Deck discussion for A Darker Jace

cancel or deprive for more control and i don't know that 6 creatures will be enough

Given that you only have a grand total of six creatures I don't think that the Malakir Bloodwitch is a compelling choice. Given that you are playing hard control than you might be better off with Vampire Nighthawk's. They're cheaper and deathtouch is a huge advantage for any control deck. As is the lifelink.

I'd suggest also that there are few times I'd rather play mindrot over Negate. I don't think Deprive would be very good in this sort of deck because you can't afford to miss land drops or you'll lose the advantage of permission.

OK, made a couple changes. Replaced countersquall with negate. Replaced soul manipulation with Cancel. Added 1 more Mind Rot main board. I agree with Soulknife about deprive. I went with the Bloodwitch over nighthawk for 2 reasons. My local meta is mostly comprised of decks that run path's in the main, and celestial purges in the side. the second reason is my own consume the meek.

Before Cancel could even cross your mind, you should already be playing 4x Deprive and 4x Negate... Also, where is the Abyssal Persecutor?

I agree with Cakins; given the lack of early game creatures, Abyssal Persecutor could do well in this deck.. u could also run Hypnotic Specter to further slim ur opponents' hand down..

I like the look of ur deck so far, although I'd be a bit worried when facing mono burn and elemental decks, as they burn hard and fast..

maybe sideboard some spot removal (eg Doom Blade)

take a look at agony warp. it really helps slow your opponent down early game by killing one creature, and making the other deal no damage
