the fact that this is legal in Modern tells me that youre probably missing out on some great commons from older sets. might be worth doing a little research into the Urza Block and sets from that era. there are some good cards there. additionally, you could add red for Burst of Speed and Goblin Bushwhacker to give haste to your dudes.
