Deck Description

I like the Melira + Persistance combo. I was trying to take that a bit further, using the combo like an Enduring Renewal deck: cycling things back in and out of play to hit infinity. Combos that do Infinity with Melira:

Altar of Dementia/Blasting Station + Any Persist Creature + Melira = Infinite Mill
Altar of Dementia/Blasting Station + Kitchen Finks + Melira = Infinite Life
Altar of Dementia/Blasting Station + Woodfall Primus + Melira = Destroy All Opponent's Permanants (and Infinite Mill)

Without Infinity the deck has a few additional combos:
Melira + Natural Order = Tutor Any creature into play at a cost of 2GG, triggering any 'coming into play' abilities twice

All of that mentioned, this plays like a creature deck and does not need combos to be effective.

Deck discussion for Infinite Persistance

My god. That is absolutely horrible! I like!
I don't think you need the Altar of Dementia for the Aerie Ouphes though.

Agreed, really alot of the combos I was showcasing are a little redundant once you realize that generalized combo is a win condition.

The more I think about this deck, the more I like the combo aspect of it. Considering dropping the Birthing Pod CMC climb and maxing out the Altars (maybe also adding Blasting Stations). I just don't want the deck to tank if I can't pull a Melira. Too bad all the low mana cost Persists are green, otherwise I would just pull all the creatures green and run Summoner's Pact as a targeted tutor.

I would agree with dropping the Birthing Pod, they seem a bit redundant but I do see how they can be used as well to find Melira. The only thing is that you still need to find the Altar so...... I'd take out the Birthing Pods, play a few games without and see what happens.

awesome deck, perhaps add worldly tutor to fetch melira. Also Green Sun's zenith is better then natural order because it goes back to your library, same CMC

persist doesn't work with melira, sorry. melira states that creatures cannot have counters PLACED on them. if it was stated like getting the -1/-1 counter was a trigger effect ("when it comes into place, put a -1/-1 counter on it") then it would work (due to when, it becomes an enter the battlefield and happens after the card enters the battlefield and uses the stack). unfortunately it says, "return it to play under its owner's control WITH a -1/-1 counter on it". this means that the counter is not placed on the creature, but it is inherit of the card and does not use the stack. this is similar to Etched monstrosities static ability,"Etched Monstrosity enters the battlefield WITH five -1/-1 counters on it".

Okay, I see where you could get that reading. Has there been a ruling on that that I am unaware of?

Dammit heliosofcows, you beat me to it :p and your first comment is correct. I so enjoy correcting peoples' mistakes.

One creature that I know works the way cho_kai wanted to use Melira is Juniper Order Ranger as it puts +1/+1 counters on the persister that came back, thus nullifying the -1/-1 counter it enters with :p

Except the Melire/Etched combo actually works; therefore, Persist DOES in fact work with Melira. Whoever told you otherwise was incorrect.

I have made some significant changes to the deck arrangement per comments that have been made. Keep the advice coming.

take out devoted druid. with melira out, you cant untap him. also, if you only plan on tutoring melira with GSZ, take one out since she is legendary. an addition i would make is 4 glen elendra archmage to protect melira and 1 river kelpie

Hmm, this is quite similar to mine

Strange how these things happen without seeing other peoples ideas. My start point was kind of like this in that I thought of using creatures with interesting effects, like murderous redcap etc to abuse their bounce, but then I settled on efficiency so I took out the non-green stuff, put in some heartmenders so I could bounce things at least once per turn etc... I've proxied it and run a couple of hands etc. and mine plays pretty well.

Hi there cho_kai! Looks like this deck is evolving well. I have a similar deck that I have put a lot of effort into and am very happy with how it turned out. Check it out if you like.

I splashed black for a cheap sacrifice engine but blue and card draw are very fun so I like this version also. Natural Order is a really neat card that I hadn't considered before with persist. NICE!
I choice to use Worldly Tutor since I have black creatures too.
I also think you could use something to help protect Melira such as Lightning Greaves or Canopy Cover.

Either way good luck with the deck!

Agreed. I'm definitely going to have to try this.

i like how melira is crucial to this deck's strategy and yet you only play three copies of her. why?

also, doesnt blasting station just kill your opponent after 20 activations?

He's playing 4xGreen Sun's Zenith so that equals 7 Melira in needed. Should be enough right?

Also, Melira is a Legendary. Fetch can be used for other things so it is keeping the deck thin without (greatly) reducing your chances of getting her to play.

Natural Order for Woodfall Primus is a great idea. So many people use Natural Order for Progenitus exclusively, and then get stuck if there's an Ensnaring Bridge type object in play...

And that's why they play Ancient Grudge in sideboard so you can still win game 2 and 3.

If you had Phyrexian Altar, you would have the mana to bring out Murderous Redcap, allowing an Infinite damage combo. It would also help with Woodfall Primus' mana cost.
Your altars seem to work fine on their own, though.

I agree with this :) Phyrexian Altar could also give you infinite mana to play Woodfall Primus (or... well... anything!) if you didn't happen to come across a Natural Order or produce mana for Archmage!

i wanna make a persist deck. looks fun.... only problem is if i make it even remotely awesome itll cost me a fortune. i mean look at the estimated deck cost $239 would be low!! im not willing to spend more than 30 on any single deck.

Me gusta. Melira + Persist is just too damn amazing.

The only thing I would suggest is something to protect Melira (Lightning Greaves, Swiftfoot Boots, Asceticism), so once she's out you won't have to worry about her anymore.

Pretty interesting choice running this greeny meanie with blue, I run mine with black (Viscera Seer sac engine!!). I like the green/blue uniqueness!

Check it out if you'd like; Melira supporters are always welcome!

I chose blue as a compliment primarily because of Glen Elendra Archmage. Being able to counterspell at will is pretty potent.

Melira makes for some pretty fun combos, if only she was easier to protect. Input in my goblin deck would be much appreciated: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=229571
