Deck Description

It's been a very long time since I made a deck in MTG. Ixalan was kind of a breaking point, plus I've had a lot going on. Nevertheless, before I left, I bought the Inalla commander deck when it came out. I have been occasionally thinking about ways to make certain cards work, but always put it down. I picked up some new hobbies, made a lot of bad life decisions, but kept thinking about Kess. About that awesome Grixis deck I could make. So, after a long contemplation and a lot I thinking, I can put this out into the world and be happy with it. A lot of people run Grixis spellslinger, and I haven't seen Grixis control in a bit in EDH. So, without further adieu, I'm reminding everyone what Grixis fun & good stuff can do. Enjoy!

How to Play

Normally, this is where I'd post some long Commander pre-con similar description for what you're doing, but this deck isn't like my other decks. It's the kind of deck the main antagonist of some game or show would use. Honestly, I think the list speaks for itself. So instead of answering how to play, I think it's easier to explain what you can do with this deck. Grixis control stands in my mind as a dominate deck of a lost age that still lurks in the shadows, waiting to unleash it's devious scheme to win the game. Grixis is Nicol Bolas, a manipulative mastermind that antagonizes friends and foes while furthering an intricate scheme. A lot of people say that "this deck is mean," but Grixis control is actually mean. There isn't a single card in this deck without some extra bit to it just to rub in whatever you did. You've got cards like Vraska's Contempt, which exiles a creature and gives you life for it, Insidious Will, which counters s spell and let's you copy whatever you countered, Ob Nixilis Unshackled, which robs someone of 10 life as well as a creature and then gets bigger. When you play this deck, you do it wearing some extravagant outfit wielding a skull-tipped scepter laughing as everyone else fails to see the utility of their efforts. This isn't the good guy's deck, and that's what makes it fun. You ruin people's plans with counterspells, wipe the board when you feel like it, then drop something like Grave Titan or The Locust God and take over the entire game while every just asks, "Why didn't we get rid of him when we could?" Grixis control is a summary of Red, Blue, and Black in a horrendous blend of pure evil, and it's great. You want counter stuff? Grixis control does it. You want to kill stuff? Grixis control does it. Card draw? Grixis control does it. Big scary creatures? Grixis control does it. This deck isn't some crazy Storm deck, it's not a mill deck, it's not a burn deck. It's a bit of all of them in a nasty list made with some of my favorite cards you can throw in a list. The only other card I'd add is Expropriate, because that in my mind's eye is the perfect Grixis card, but it's also $50 and 9 mana which personally is a high pricetag. So how do you play Grixis control? Just play everyone for suckers and reap the rewards.
