Deck Description

Is EDH too expensive for you? Wanna play a fun deck that doesn't cost a fortune? Then allow me to introduce you to....Poor Man's EDH. For under $75 (Or around in this case) you can own a cool, powerful, and fun EDH deck that isn't too limited. Going roughly $5 over budget isn't ideal. We did it for Zo-Zu though, so Sedris gets the exception. Whenever I do these decks, my main goal is $75 or less, but my max is under $95. Sedris is not only an immensely powerful commander, but his Grixis color combo amplifies what he does vastly. His unearth is strong when done correctly, and adding a bunch of enter the battlefield effects just brings a force to the game that no one will so coming. Without further adieu, enjoy!

How to Play

The word traitor carries strong weight in any kingdom. In the kingdom of mortals, it implies an hated and untrustworthy person. On Grixis, it's the title of one of it's greatest rulers. Sedris was once a mere man, a resident of Jund. His fellow man worshipped titanic dragons that roamed the skies, yet Sedris had other ideals. He saw their power and lusted after it. So, he put forth a plot in secrecy. As they called upon a dragon to grace their presence, Sedris cast a spell to steal it's power. For his success, he was exiled to Grixis and labeled The Traitor King. In Grixis, a demon tried to offer him a deal for more power. Sedris would accept, becoming a powerful undead armed in the fallen dragon's remains, and then betray the demon, adding his remains to his arms. Now, as you approach his throne of the bones of those Sedris and his legion have slain, you simply request the best way to play traitor for power. With a sinister grin, he agrees to teach you his ways.

Sedris and his horde are neigh near unstoppable with this willingness to devastate everything between them and the power they crave. Sedris himself brings out the ability to betray even death. He gives all your creatures in the grave Unearth, meaning they come back with haste, but are exiled at the end of the turn. Basically, all of your creatures get one more chance to annihilate those annoying adversaries. So if you want to have an aggressive board presence, just let Sedris arrive and start pulling that lazy Grave Titan back from the grave to add a few more zombies to your forces.

What makes Sedris and his ability even more deadly is that most of your creatures have enter the battlefield effects. Cards like Mogg War Marshall, Beetleback Chief, and Grave Titan add tokens on arrival, while cards like Phyrexian Rager draw more cards to add more of an edge in your favor. A terrifying thought is that you easily run a Deadeye Navigator in your deck, adding more to the ETB effects and why you are easily the scariest player on board. The list of things you can do with this mix of creatures and abilities is vast, and if you're willing to break budget, you can throw in Strionic Resonator and Conjurer's Closet to create an engine that every player will tremble as they witness it run!

Now, if you want to win, you need to keep the hands and fields in your favor. Plenty of cards like Blasphemous Act and Life's Finale keep the board clean, and your removal spells and counter, like Mindswipe and Terminate, help control things you just don't like. Obviously, in order to win games with strong cards, you need to have them. So this deck features plenty of card draw and tutoring. Cards like Catalog and Frantic Search draw cards, however require discard for the draw. Which is fine, because you can either throw away dead cards (like the 7th swamp you've drawn in a row) or creatures, which you can bring back with Sedris! Demonic Collusion is a great Tutor card that you can discard 2 cards to buy back, meaning you can put it right back in your hand! Why just have one or the other though? Cruel Ultimatum gives you the best of control and draw by forcing an opponent to sacrifice a creature, discard three cards and lose 5 life, while drawing you 3 cards, bringing a creature from your graveyard in your hand, and giving you 5 life! overall, Sedris isn't really a hard commander to understand. Your main goal is utter destruction, crushing all opposition under your boot while you set the battlefield ablaze as you laugh maniacally. It may make you a target, but why care when nothing can stop you?
