Deck discussion for finished Illusion-aggro/control

Are you familiar with Krovikan Mist?
I ultimately replaced my Dragons with it in my illusion build.

I just looked it up. I literally just started playing a year ago october.
This is actually going to be used in a few events over the next few weeks. Standard tourney's anyways.
If anything I would probably replace phantom beast with it. I'm thinking of replacing them anyways for turn aside.

Grand Architect and Wurm Coil Engine would be incredible in this deck. Wurmcoil Engine turn 3? Don't mind if I do. Phyrexian Metamorph could be useful once you have a Wurmcoil on the field, or for duplicating more Lord of the Unreal.

You could run Celestial Fortress and whatever the other U/W land is for Oblivion Ring. Celestial Colenade would be another nice addition. Can't use your mana this turn? Punch someone in the face with it. :D

@ Odaru I think i've missed something, how would i get a wurmcoil engine on turn 3 O.o?

Also the phantasmal image is exactly for copying Lord of the unreal. Whats more fun than having two lord of the unreals? A lord of the unreal that is an illusion gives itself +1/+1 and hexproof :V.

Grand Architect allows you to tap an untapped blue creature you control for two colorless mana. So if you drop an Architect and have two other blue creatures(bear, lord, image, etc) you can tap all three of them and play a Wurmcoil turn 3. :D

Oh wait, grand architect. Actually i never thought of that, Its in my other deck in place of the other lord of the unreals and phantasmal image.

Hey man sick deck, my deck is REALLY similar, kinda upsetting i was hoping to have an original deck(but that seems to be impossible in this game), anyways... how well does turn aside work? I pretty sure even if you counter a spell that is targeting your illusions they still get sacrificed, but how often do you find yourself using it to stop counter against your other creatures(mainly lord)?

Hey check out my illusion deck, dont hate or anything, i swear I didnt see this deck until just now when i was trying to get ideas to improve my deck. http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=231661

Well on the stack technically i didnt ever get targeted. Anyway nice deck I also like the dragons in here how about a coat of arms for 1adptive automation? Just a thought, it is for every one but with all the extra buffs you have and counters im sure it wouldnt be a problem Would be awsome to match up against my b/w control check it out and tell me what you think: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=216828

The second they get targeted, illusion effects kick. Their effects are not in a regular stack. If they get targeted at all regardless of counter spells or redirects, your illusion dies. I learned that the hard way

IF YOUR TALKING ABOUT THE GRAND ARCH ABILITY IT DOES NOT TARGET THEM FOR TAPPING

Not grand architect. The only ability that Grand Architect has that could kill your illusions is the Turn target creature blue effect. Was for the comment above about counter spells.

Yea what he said about the targetting is true. I was going to run spell skite till i found that out. Currently running a very similar deck. This is what i hope to achieve but what i'm currently running is also on my page.
Also if you run adaptive automatons grand architect is useful. You can just tap grand arch for its own ability and then spend a mana for an adaptive automaton.
also I'm about to change this around, I've found out the hard way. You want more creatures than other types of spells. Yes they are nice but timing is a pain.

Here is my Illusion deck. I did notice however that there are a ton of illusion decks and people get pretty mad when they find out about the illusion rules.

http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=220409

I have a lot more counter and creature control in my deck to assist me with getting through to hit them. This may become a blue/white control once innistrad comes out.

Turn Aside DOES NOT WORK! I promise. Even if the spell is countered it was still targeted. The 'Targeting' does not go on the stack and therefore even if the spell does not resolve it was still targeted. Check out my illusion deck for control suggestions. I have actually won FNM with it.

Turn aside is in there for the key of making this deck stay put. Lord of the unreal. The counters in there are simply so he can stay alive, or any other creature like grand architect so that you can still stay strong somewhat.

ok not bad ive actually have faced this deck alot. i have some suggestions. agnorak262 is right turn aside is crap in this build why not run more leaks and maybe stoic rebbutal. Another card thats a must in this deck is Phyrexian Metamorph. This card will make your deck a whole lot better and u can use architect ability to cast it instead of only having only 2 wurms for his ability. I do understand that hes just used as a lord but why not abuse his abilitys to the fullest extent. Another option is maybe a mindslaver for that bit more of control and u still get to use architects ability for it also.

Heres my most recent build thats been doin me wonders would u mind taking a look and giving some thoughts? http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=234302

Well leaks i never put in main deck. It just depends on what i'm facing. Reason being is because last week i faced valakut with mana leaks in my deck. When on the 5th turn he dropped his primordial titan with that 6 out of 10 mana. My leak didn't do shit except make him tap his land. And he also didn't really taget my creatures except with the lightning bolts. Now instead of paying two mana to keep my lord alive and later my grand architect i only paid one and then flash freezed his inferno titan. Literal play by play. He still won to my dissatisfaction leaving me with a 3-1 record and him with a 4-0. But anyways, it just depends on what i'm playing. If i'm playing against something that isn't really going after my stuff i'm going to side in things to go after theirs or to help me draw. The deck isn't completely done i'm still playing and learning with it.

Thanks though, also a birthing pod deck that actually works? I haven't seen many that play very well thus far.

Turn Aside makes no sense in Illusions, once they're targeted they are sacrificed.

illusion decks are hard to run properly because it is all about timing with spells. grand architect is good in this deck for the turn 3 wurmcoil. i would also run a few phyrexian metamorphs. not only are they good for you but there good if lets say your opponent plays a sword. you can copy it and use it against them. metamorph is good in alost any situation. but illusion decks do have a downfall. they have a hard time winning against decks like mine. you can check it out and tell me what you thibk. ive won FNM the past week and i havent lost any matches with it yet. tell me what you think.http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=235161

Nice build pal, I like the amount of counter magic you run... I'm having trouble finding a replacement for Spell Pierce in my illusion aggro-control deck. After Mana Leak it's difficult to commit to anything but I do like aspects of Negate, Mental Misstep, Dissipate and Turn Aside... it's just rough having so few spaces to commit to such diverse counters!

if i were you i would just throw in 3 or 4 negates. they work well for me and it allows you to save your leaks for there big creatures. like titans and anything that might be a problem.

Yea i hate and love manaleak like i said. I went this past wednsday and changed the deck around a little. I don't actually have the wurmcoils just yet but i'm trying to get them. I've found a few substitutes for em but not many amazing substitutes.
also i had this happen. Best...game ever....
I was facing some dude with a blue white control deck. I think it was called superfriends.
1st turn: Phantasmal bear
2nd Turn: 2x more phantasmal bears. Swing for 2.
3rd turn: grand architect and 2 adaptive automatons. swing for 5
4th turn: Swing for 21.
Fortunately I went first, when the game ended he revealed a day. That would have screwed my world up.

I do need to change this deck around though, its driving me nuts.

or maybe i didn't swing for 5 the 3rd turn I can't remember. I was just kind of happy with how it played.
He wound up winning overall however. I've recently run into a problem of my deck just playing weird. It lost a few times when it probably shouldn't have. That game he had a pretty neat hand but unfortunately his deck kind of crapped on him.

yeah i personally like running blue white control. although now im moving more into green white control so i can adapt into thrun. and even then with green you may not have counter but you have a lot more field control. green adapts into beast within, naturalize, and withstand death if necessary. and it allows for thrun. hes amazing because he comes onto the battlefield whether your opponent likes it or not. he cant be kill-spelled cuz he has hexproof. and he regenerates. whats better than that. and for a win condition you can throw an angelic destiny on him. and of course with white you have the basic field control spells. like pacifism, arrest, o-ring, day. all great control for big creatures your opponent might play. and forced worship is great too. and the other reason why i like green white over blue white is because troll-blade beats caw-blade anyday and all day. :P
