Deck Description

This is the list that I took to top 4 for fnm (3-1-1, made top 8, won my round and top 4 split). Ideally I would have a 2nd Raven's Crime in the sideboard to replace Leyline, while also replacing a Mountain and an Urborg in the mainboard with a Dakmor Salvage and a Graven Cairns; but, my lgs didn't have those.
I found I was siding out a Commune with the Gods quite often so I might drop down to 3 and add something cool - not sure yet.

How to Play

The idea is to stick a Molten Vortex on T1 or a Zombie Infestation on T2 - using Life from the Loam as a value engine. Sticking one later is fine too, but getting under countermagic can be a big deal in some match-ups.
I was inspired by Raphael Levy's Zombie Loam deck, changing it up a bit when I wanted to add Molten Vortex.

Deck discussion for Vortex Loam - A Clever Title

awesome deck. two things id recommend are ghost quarter, and flame jab in the sb. it suprising how many 1 toughness creatures you want to kill, and with loam you can cast it multiple times in a turn

I've got Ghost Quarter number 4 in the sideboard for the control matchups - Shutting down celestial collonade can be huge in the late game - and decks that have excessively greedy or oppressive mana bases like Tron.
As for Flame Jab, it's certainly a cool card and I tried to find a slot for it, but between it and Molten Vortex, they're only equal for the first iteration. Playing and activating Vortex is RR and a land for 2 damage, Casting and Retracing Flame Jab is also RR and a land for 2 damage. Both are at Sorcery speed, and Vortex gets better than Flame Jab the longer it stays on the field. I much prefer Darkblast to Flame Jab in terms of removal. -1/-1 is usually more relevant than 1 damage and you can use it twice in a turn by casting it on your upkeep, dredging it for the turn during your drawstep, and casting it again in MF1. Trouble with fairly costed X/1's can also be dealt with via Necroplasm or blocking with a Zombie Token from Infestation.
