Deck Description

a sort of standard dragon tribal deck. it needs some more help and would like to keep it mono red. wont go out and bash face at a tourney imo, but might be fun to use at least.

comments welcomed.

Deck discussion for Deadreckoning

Hmm, definitely could make it tourney playable, though. Just need to tweak it a bit, add some mana fixing, and toss out the Slumbering Dragons (unless you combine it with Aggravate, which is rather mean) for another hasty dragon (like Hunted Dragon),and you could have a nice, quick draconian beatdown in no time.

it is a hope to see something like this in a tourney and do pretty good. well i want to aim for a standard tourney to see it but i am pos a modern or possibly legacy version of this could see play.

do not take out slumbering dragon. it slows down aggro decks and can be used as one drop removal with scourge on the board.

take out Wild Guess for Thundermaw Hellkite until rotation. I have a very similar decklist, and it runs better than you would think on MTGO.

lol wasnt planing on it till after rotation. wild guess is a better card here for my deck than the hellkite to me. problem with mono red, u lake draw power when u run outta gas. thundermaw is already a kill on its own anyways.

If you happen to splash blue into it, since they made such a cheap dragon the hatching, slumbering, and the egg, you could easily put in a playset of call to the kindred, and drop out one every turn pretty much guarenteed for free, not to mention, if you put it on something weak and unnoticable like the hatching or the egg, they'd have to waste a kill spell on that instead on something serious like valkas, haha and if they kill the egg you still get another dragon =p

haha yah i have been thinking of making it part blue. blue will have better defenses against most things and has better draw spells. im just experimenting with a mono red version of it really. gotta be different and difficult i guess hahaha. anyone can make this with another color and boost the power.

No doubt, well you should totally add in some infernal plunge, sac the dragon egg for mana, get another dragon and probably play a dragon like valkas or archwing

i thought about it but it gets plenty of mana already it might be a lil much doing that.

If you are thinking of splashing anything, I would suggest green. Garruk, Caller of Beast's emblem is a wicked combo with the Scourge. Plus it allows great midgame draw.

eh i have done plenty r/g dragon decks, they r too easy for me. i want a challenge here that can be some what competitive.

At least 2 utvara hellkites, and some thundermaws if your going to play pre rotation, I'm running g/r dragons at the moment, and its super awesome. I like the 30$ budget cost well done

problem with both in this is the mana curve will be very high then. that and like i said before thundermaw is a kill on its own without the others in the deck..

skullcrack may be an option but again, thundermaw is a kill on its own. i dont need it in this build. idk about macap skills...

You should probably splash blue. Mic Mizzet, Draco-Genius is an amazing draw engine and offensive dragon. You could also add Hypersonic Dragon for an instant speed Wild Guess.

Nope, it's horrible. 2 Dragonspeaker Shaman and 2 Crucible of Fire would be totally better. And maybe some Desperate Ritual ;)

Let me propose to you a question. What's better, no advice, or a bunch of advice you don't want? He is making a standard deck, therefor he wants advice that pertains to standard. If this were to be made legacy it would be completely different. My comment wasn't made to give HIM advice, but rather you.

If he is gonna do legacy there is no reason he would build it like that, generally the only legacy dragon deck worth building is dragonstorm, no other dragon decks can come close to that and thats a 100% different way to do things. Adding blue is a great idea if he were to go that route he could keep it standard but run draws and counters to keep his early game running well and shut the opponent down. not to mention my opinion of call to the kindred keeps it standard and runs a serious threat in the early/mid game range.
Keeping it red tho is fine as well, straight aggro is mean as it gets and it runs better consistency.
Mono red just gives him the option of burns instead of counters, just as mean if used correctly. And thanks to a few new cards red has a decent draw theme to it now, granted discarding is involved, but that's the price ya gotta pay sometimes.

HotPoloPlayer and chew yall have it right. yes i can make this anything i want, but the challenge is to stay in the standard scene and keep it mono red. thought after tons of research i might branch off this and make a r/b version of this tomorrow lol.

thanks for all the comments though everyone, didnt think anyone would like it that much, was a random challenge/idea i had haha.

btw chew, a legacy dstorm isnt the only option my friend;) gimme some time and ill make a wild monster for a dragon deck. it may not be super powerful compared to dstorm, but it will pack a couple surprises in it ;)

Yea you can make a dragon deck in legacy that's not dragon storm but no dragon deck can compare to a Dstorm deck, but sure demon I'm interested in your legacy dragon deck without Dstorm, I have no doubt you can make it nasty. Haha and Dstorm decks have made me sour towards them :p my friend has a vintage Dstorm deck that wins with the first 2 turns on average, horrible deck to try and beat haha forced me to make a deck that can win with in 3 turns average to face it or there's no point haha

Door of Destinies would be great because of Archwing Dragon though. You can keep casting it turn after turn and make your dragons stronger every turn! Take out a couple of Geistflames for Door, and maybe fill it in with another low cost burn spell and I think this deck would be stronger for it, even with the higher curve.

0
Posted 26 August 2013 at 00:37

you want to be dealing damage on every turn possible. Door slows this deck down considerably. the tradeoff isnt worth it.

those r my thoughts too. i thought door would only be like an anchor for the deck.

If you want to splash some black in here, Altar's Reap makes a great combo with Dragon Egg. Sacrifice the Egg, draw two cards and put a 2/2 pump-able flyer. Plus it's instant speed so you can cast it in response to a removal spell on one of your dragons and, it will survive rotation . Not sure if any other black card might work in here. I'll have a look and comment back

yah it is a very nice card lol. if i go black then i could use heartless summoning and just release some serious shennanigans lol.

i do have a r/b version of this deck made just for the giggles.

I would suggest Goblins. Krenko's command x4, as many Krenko Mob Boss as you want. Maybe some goblin ralleys. but what makes the goblins help the dragons are skirk prospectors. use krenko to makes tons of 1/1 goblin tokens. then sack them for mana using skirk, and ramp scourge of valkas to some scary numbers.

this unfortunately wouldn't allow you to keep this deck as standard. and I don't think they make a standard replacement for skirk prospector. makes for an awesome kitchen table deck though.

Please check mine out and let me know what you think!
