Deck discussion for Kitty Parade (Standard)

Quest for holy relic seems useless you know it only gets counters when u cast a creature spell not when a creature enters the battlefield. Just a suggestion I think this deck would run a little slow but i suppose your trying to stall and mass I am not sure what your game plan is. Stone forge mystic would be nice.

Hi thanks for reply =]

Yeah not going for speed games, game plan is to get as many cats out and build an army up, whilst getting equipments onto the field for Kemba, Kha Regent, or failing that, Sunspear Shikari.

Replaced the Kemba's Skyguards with Kor Skyfishers since your post, to allow for bouncing of cheap creatures back to my hand to allow for more counters to be placed on the Quests. Do you think this seems more appropriate now?

Thanks for feedback.

PS: Would like stoneforge mystics but wanted all the creatures in the deck to be cats, and they're also v. expensive!

No problem :)

I still think Quests and Kor Sky fisher are unnecessary considering all your creatures are 2 drops it would take forever for you to pop off the quests picking up the Kor Sky fisher will eventually get it too pop off but it does not fit with the deck and if your only running 2 quests you will most likely get them late game when you have dropped all your creatures and are now waiting to top deck 5 creatures!!!
Late game quests are just like having a blank card in your deck.

You would have better luck just top decking equipment. I like link between Ajani, the Pride mates, and Survival Cache(Look into Soul's Attendant as a one drop too replace sky fisher ^^). The healing will get pride mates buff and Soul's Attendant plus white sun zenith will bring you a ton of life as well.

Also since all your creatures are white i would recommend using Brave the Elements. It will protect your creatures from destroy spells, burns spells, un-summoning, and other nasty stuff. Brave the elements will do wonders for supporting your cats.

Argentum armor seems a bit pricey 2 have more than one, but I would not run it cause its just 2 pricey if you pull that card early game you have another blank card basically.

I hope my advice helps :0) it sucks stone forge mystics are so high in value because of the Sword of feast and famine, and body and mind. Which are the basically the cards you need to make any decent deck nowadays. Yet you have some decent equipment you just gotta pray for pennon blade i would consider putting in 4 trusty machetes for better odds of a consistent equipment. maybe dropping bladed pinions I am unsure because my deck is built around stone forge grabbing equipments for me is very different because i can tutor.

Yeah I appreciate some of those points but rather than taking them out, do you have any suggestions about how I'd make a cat deck work assuming it has to include at least 1 Argentum Armor and 1 Quest for the Holy Relic?

I love both the cards and rather than changing direction of the deck would like it to be based on those, whilst still being a 'cat' themed deck. That's also one of the reasons I didn't use Soul's Attendant, I want all of the creatues to be cats.

Should I put in more quests? Or use cheaper (if possible) cats?

Thanks for advice =]

-I would run a full set of quests to better your chances of drawing it early.

-Take out Sky Fisher replace with cats too keep theme Leonin sky hunter would be my choice, or you can try steppe lynx which would be probably be your only one drop cat creature card, yet if you do not have a lot of fetch lands steppe lynx wont be that great.

- (rely on life gain and survival cache too help you draw cards. Maybe you will get enough creatures too set off quest.)

-I would also consider brave the elements great card for white creatures. Hence keeping your Kemba alive against removal.

-Sword of Vengeance is nice too like wise Strata Scythe

Ok made a few changes, cut the Kor Skyfishers and added 2 each of Leonin Skyhunter and Kemba's Skyguard.

Added 4 Brave the Elements and 2 more Quests to make the set.

Only problem now is there are 66 cards and none of the ones in the deck look bad enough to cut =/ anymore suggestions?

Really appreciating the help btw!

Best way to figure out what cards to cut is too test play it. When your playing ask yourself what card you value the least. This is when you start making a side board. 66 cards in a deck is not terrible, but I always do minimum 60. You may want too side board brave the elements against creature control, and maybe 2 relic warder. I would keep leonin sky hunter as a 2 drop value replacement, but it all depends on what your playing against find out what the meta game is in your area and you'll be able to figure out what to cut.

Yeah I'm maybe gonna cut the Quests if they don't play as well as I'd like. Haven't actually made the deck yet, waiting on a few last cards to arrive, but will definitely be able to tell afterwards what to cut and put in sideboard.

Thanks again!

Try playing against as many deck types as possible. This is a pretty standard beatdown deck, so go against decks that are good against a creature deck - burns, controls, etc.

If you end up going .500 or better, then you're on the right track. :)

Thanks for advice! What do you mean by .500 or better?

He’s referring to your win/loss ratio. .5 would be that you lose about half the time to burn or control decks. Which for a creature deck is pretty good from the sound of it.

if your looking for cheap (money wise) epuipment then trusty machete and piston sledge are both good candidates
if you find that you have trouble getting the quests off before people destroy them then mabye side-deck wall of omens and steppe linx
hope that helps a bit, white is not my forte

Do you need Quest in order for this to function ok? Because if not, something you might consider is Leonin Arbiter. Stops players from searching libraries, any player may pay 2 to ignore this until end of turn. It'll shut down alot of decks in standard that rely on searching/fetching.

If you need Quest for Argentum Armor, then yeah, maybe you don't need Arbiter, but it's definitely an amusing card, and fits the theme well, not to mention it's pretty mana cheap. Just a thought.

Yeah Arbiter does look awesome, don't think I'd use the Quests for this deck if i were to remake it again (currently focusing on another deck i've made: http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=167143) i'd use lots of ornithopters / memnites as creatures.

Thanks again for advice, would appreciate it if you had any tips for that deck i just linked! =]

Not sure how this works with your mana curve, but Prototype Portal can be humorous in a Khemba deck. If you wanna sdee how I use it, here's a deck I made a while back (Although it is not standard) http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=119084

Just looked up Prototype Portal, hadn't heard of it before, can see how awesome it'd be to constantly replicate cheap equipments to attach to Kemba! Nice deck too, thanks for the tip!

Kemba wants a Darksteel Plate and Whispersilk Cloak.. :) Ajani's Pridemate especially wants Whispersilk Cloak, and also Basilisk Collar and his old drinking pal, Soul's Attendant.

If you can get a hold of them, this really would work a lot better with Stoneforge Mystic.

I'd go to 4 Leonin Skyhunters, 2 for a 2/2 with flying is pretty sweet in my opinion :D

Day of Judgment might be worth considering. Following it up with a decent-sized White Sun's Zenith would be devastating. It can also get you out of tough situations. And Eldrazi Monument would just end the game once you got the cat army up and running. I might remove some of the equipments like pennion blade and accorder's shield and play more tempo/removal, such as oust and condemn. Brave the Elements, as someone else mentioned, is also great in a white creature deck. And I really think Squadron Hawk should be here. Pretty nice to have a steady stream of blockers.

I would have to agree with most and get rid of quests. Maybe honor of the pure or journey to nowhere.

honor of the pure would be sweet, and id suggest dropping the steppe for a couple of emerias, late game emeria is awesome...
