Bower Passage essentially makes all your angels unblockable.

There's not much downside to running Detention Sphere over Banishing Light, but the upside it is can occasionally hit a token swarm or two people running the same guy, etc. It's worth it.

Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx is going to make more mana than Serra's Sanctum in a lot of cases.

Ancestral Mask tends to just one-shot people in a deck like this.

You can't really think of Draining Whelk as a counterspell, because if you're relying on it to save you it just won't work. Just think of it as a creature with flying and +1/+1 counters that comes into play while robbing your opponent of something big. Basically when I have it in hand I just think "okay, I want to cast it this turn, so I'll just delete the next big spell I see". Pretty often by the time you can cast it you're gonna be countering something large, so you waste an opponent's entire turn and get a big flier in response.

I ran Vorosh for awhile but eventually switched to Mimeoplasm for my +1/+1 counter general as Vorosh just didn't seem to ever get the job done.

I'd say that generally speaking 39 dudes is too many in a deck that isn't cheating stuff out or running weenies. It's just too hard to cast multiples per turn, and you're asking to overextend if you do. Personally I'd cut down a bit and add some utility.

Ob Nixilis, Unshackled is a solid creature in his own right, but the real fun comes when you use Fertilid to force someone else to tutor lands. I'll the best way to kill someone in the history of Magic and never, ever stops being funny.

Greater Good is an absolute bomb. Even if you never use it for anything saccing a big-ass dude in response to a board wipe or targeted removal it is great value.

Solidarity of Heros wins games.

Draining Whelk is really solid here, Gilder Bairn is a nice way to double counters as is Vorel of the Hull Clade, Prime Speaker Zegana is a bomb, and Spike Weaver can lock people out of games.

It probably depends how often your guys get huge, but for me Essence Harvest usually just reads "kill target player".

Kaalis is a trap that a semi-competent playgroup will figure out how to shut down in about one game. That said:

Return to Dust has the same CMC as Alter's Light, and gives you the option to hit two targets on your main phase.

I'd run Chaos Warp or even Oblation over Disenchant myself. It rarely burns you, and being able to hit any target is worth the risk, imo.

Brainstorm is like 50 cents and absolutely should be in here.

Dissipate is strictly better than Cancel and is also cheap.

I'd ruch Switcheroo or Legerdemain over Control Magic/Mind Control. Sure you have to give them a drake for the creature, but it makes a drake in the process, and it can't be reversed by zapping the Control Magic.

Gift of Immortality lets you chuck the same dude over and over.

Spitebellows works nicely. You can cast him for his evoke cost then fling it with the sac trigger on the stack.

Grafted Wargear can be attached for 0 to a dude you're about to fling.

Angelic Accord makes a dude most of the times when you fling a dude, giving you another dude to fling, which makes you a dude, etc.

I'd much rather run Chaos Warp over Oblivion Ring. Too easy to get the target back by removing O-ring.

Since most of your dudes won't be attacking Glare of Subdual or Opposition can do great before-the-end-of-your-turn work.

Stoic Angel plays nicely with Rafiq, as does Knotvine Paladin, Angelic Overseer, and Knight Exemplar.

Mudslide won't hurt you a bit, and it'll mess up quite a few other decks.

Nature's Claim is a great card in some environments, but in EDH it's well worth it IMO to pay one more mana for a Delglamer or Unravel the Aether to make sure you can hit a Darksteel whatever or Blighsteel Colossos or Theros god, plus it keeps the card out of the graveyard where it's easily recurred, plus it robs graveyard triggers like off a Wurmcoil Engine.

It probably depends on how combo-heavy your meta is, but in an environment where you aren't relying on blue players to keep combo in check (though the blue players are often the combo players) Hall of Gemstone does amazing work keeping all your stuff from being countered, plus it can totally shut down heavy multi-colored decks and keep multi-colored commanders from being cast in the first place.

Dissipate is Cancel with a scry 1 stapled on. No reason not to upgrade.

B/R dragons, very cool.

I do think you're running too many creatures, though. You can really only play so many guys without overextending into a boardwipe. I'd cut down and replace some with a bit of removal and some draw.

Infect is largely a meta issue I think. Where I play if it's known you're someone running infect in your deck people will flat out target you first, no questions asked. The same holds true for the one or two people running mass land destruction or cheesy easy combo (Sanguine Bond/Exquisite Blood). The players just don't want to deal with the guy spite-casting Armageddon or "oops I lolz" via an easily tutorable two-card combo, and they similiarly don't wanna deal with a one-shot infect swing. When I ran Rafiq I found it wasn't worth the hassle. I don't even run Triumph of the Horde in Edric anymore because it just drew too much focus. Your playgroup might not think twice about it, though. If they don't focus you because of it then go for it.

Dissipate and Dissolve are both strictly better than Cancel.

Knotvine Paladin and Stoic Angel both place nicely with Rafiq, as does Angelic Overseer and Knight Exemplar.

I think people in general run too many creatures in EDH. Maybe in Roon or Brago or something where you're running all enter-the-battlefield abilities you want a lot, but it's been my experience that running too many dudes leads you to overextending into the inevitable board wipe. My most creature-heavy deck runs 24, and I have some running as few as 17.

Another way to look at it is this; are you ever going to draw Child of Night and think "oh, thank got I drew that Child of Night! Now I can save myself and win the game!" Probably not. But there's plenty of times I've top-decked a Murder and it's saved me.

Essence Harvest wins games in Karlov. Swing at one dude with a 24/24 Karlov for the kill, then polish someone else off with Harvest. Seriously, it's a bomb in this deck.

For one more mana than Noble Purpose you also get double strike (and double Karlov triggers) using True Conviction. Technically since Noble Purpose isn't lifelink they stack, so you could run both.

Sun Droplet gets out of control in Karlov.

I'm running a mana doubling sub-theme in my deck. In addition to Cabal Coffers, Nykthos, and Nirkana Revenant I also have Gauntlet of Power, Extraplanar Lens, Caged Sun, and Doubling Cube all of which works well with Drana, and works well with all the card draw in black. You could also slot in stuff like Crypt Ghast or Magus of the Coffers for two more doublers, but I'm sticking to only vampires just to keep things from getting out of control.

I'm moving a few decks over to tapped out just because I like their tools better, so my deck is there: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/drana-kalastria-bloodchief-queen-of-blood/

And happy new years to you, too!

I wanted a vampire deck for a long time. I started with Olivia Voldaren (red/black) then moved to Vish Kal, Blood Arbiter (black/white) then to Jeleva, Nephalia's Scourge (red/blue/black) then lastly to Anowon. The deck seemed to work best in mono-black but honestly the weakest link was Anowon. The problem was I just had a tough time getting him to do anything. He doesn't force a sacrifice until he's sat in play a full turn, and once people see he's coming they plan for it. I could never get him to stick long enough to matter. Eventually I switched to Drana on a whim and it worked much better. I guess that may be different depending on your meta, but don't be afraid to experiment with Drana (the original) if Anowan isn't quite cutting it.

Cabal Coffers is stupidly good in mono-black. I'd pick one up if you can. I even run Thespian's Stage and Vesuva to copy it if I can.

I'd find a slot for Chaos Warp; it's your only way to deal with enchantments, and enchantments are strong in EDH. It's great removal, period.

35 dudes is a lot to run in a deck not cheating stuff into play, or running weenies. You can only cast so many per turn or risk overextending, anyway. I'd cut your weakest guys and run some spot removal and card draw in those slots (Hero's Downfall, Go for the Throat, Phyrexian Arena, Necropotence, Read the Bones, Ancient Craving, Ambition's Cost, Vandalblast)
