Last I checked accorder shield was in standard, and is a great ensoul target.

In the list I have on mtgo I run card draw to keep my hand full of burn/removal more ensoul as this deck tends to run out of gas pretty quickly. Swan song also comes in handy to help protect your 5/5 as he tends to be a magnet for removal. Swan song is just sooooo nice. I run four online, then run the token over with my dude.

Would you want to swap advice? I just posted a new deck and I'm looking for fresh ideas on it.

If this is minotaurs then why are you running creatures that aren't minotaurs? Ankle shanker has no place here, in fact I dont see much meed for white at all.

Your minotaur deck needs moar minotaurs!

With such a solid swamp base, you could have some real nasty corrupts or tendrils of corruption in here.

Real nasty.

As a fellow mono black lover I would like to know what you think of my casual mono black:

I sold my cards once, and would go to fnm with a deck my friend would create for me. It was like he would just cram rares out of his binder into a deck until he hit sixty cards. There was usually a general theme to the deck but it would always be lacking commons and uncommons to help with all the messy spots. They have their place! They are needed! They are good! Look at cards like boros charm! Hell, doom blade!

I would make room for more aetherspouts mb, and what do you think of defend the hearth? Whats a control deck with green without fog effects?

I'm also a swan song fan boy. You can always just whelming wave, spouts, or fog the token afterwards.

Hordeling outburst would be really great to interact with purphuros. They also benefit from his activated ability really well.

Mardu scout is a nice little two drop, and helps with your devotion.

Thundering brute, and oracle of bones are too expensive for this kind of deck. Turn four and five are critical turns for these types of decks and these cards just dont bring enough to the table. Purphuros and Sarkhan are also a little heavy for your mana base but they provide more impact.

Searing Blood, while a good card, doesnt really fit here either. Its too situational. Your first five turns are super important and you have better cards available like hammerhand and frenzied goblin to help punch through blockers.

Stoke the flames. Think about this, you have god of the forge out, cast hordeling out burst, deal six, tap them with convoke and cast stoke the flames essentially for free and deal another four and probably win!

Other good cards for these kinds of decks: akroan crusader, hammerhand, foundry street denizen, frenzied goblin, inferno fist?, coordinated strike, among others.

Gothy has a deck on the front page (Brainstorming: Getting competitive) and he has a red aggro deck there as well as a lot of really good advice.

Good deck! Good luck and have fun!

Have you found that keranos and anger are worth splashing red into ub control?

Is lightning strike powerful enough removal? I think sarkhan or stormbreath would be worth a shot here, and you also have access to mindswipe. I think if you ran mindswipes next to craters claws here not only are you gaining extra counter/removal but you're also gaining extra wins, THEN I think lightning strike would be worth running. Considering the control build though I think you might benefit more from magma jet for the scry.

Justy two cents. I love grixis. Hopefully we get another Nicol Bolas next expansion!

Surrak Dragonclaw would be good here, he makes your dudes uncounterable and gives them trample which would be AWESOME with all of your hydras. Bring in a Prophet of Kruphix and things just get crazy (plus your lands untap for your counter spells)

Swan Song. It's such a nice counterspell and it brushes off removal in a pinch. Also, if its removal you're worried about then switch your cancels for negates.

If you're worried about your dudes getting countered then savage summoning is an instant thay will give them flash, an extra +1/+1 counter and uncounterable. Cards like rangers guile are also good for this.

Fathom Mage will give you some needed card draw here. Ramping often tends to empty out your hand pretty quickly.

What would you think about dropping one llanowar and one mystic for two kioras follower? He can help fix mana a little bit better and he also has the ability to untap a creature in the middle of combat for blocking. While I'm talking about dorks gyre sage would be good here too and fits your counter theme.

Speaking of counters, doesnt hardened scales double +1/+1 counters? Looking at you savageborn hydra!!!

I would definitely swap encrust for some red X burn spells. It can remove the creature better and also has the benefit of winning you games when the board is locked down.

Just throwing around some ideas. Cool deck, dude!

I could reccomend cards here, like vault skirge, bu thats not the point here.

The point is that a card doesn't need to be rare, or cost twenty bucks to be good. Its about your skill as a deck builder to utilize each card to its maximum potential! I hope you gave your friend a lesson, dude! Down with elitists!

Mardu Ascendancy just doesn't do enough for me. It demands that I have a field of non token creatures in play, and I dont always count on them staying around for too long anyways. If you want a three slot token pooper I think Brimaz is a better option, especially if you're "aggro".

Agree with gothy, outburst is almost always good.

Oops, I looked more closely at it and realized it was more about the charge counters than ratchet bomb effects.

DEFINITELY surge node, and unwinding clock. Contagion web and clasp are good additional sweepers and they let you proliferate. That simic three drop guy who essentially proliferates, him for sure.

Sword of the Parun will let your myr guy untap again, as will myr galvanizers for extra shenanigans.

Dark shores. Proliferate for every spell you cast. Idk, I'm sure somebody else can figure out a better way to combo off here lol

I would go for an izzet approach, since they love tinkering with gadgets.

Cards like myr retriever, junk diver, junk for treasure, and goblin welder would be great for recursion. Unwinding clock and voltaic key would let you get extra counters on your ratchet bombs, etc. SurgeNode might be handy too.

Ichor wellspring/mycosynth wellspring both have etb/ltb effects that would help thin your deck. Solemn Simulacrum would also deserve a spot.

Shrapnel blast, galvanic blast, darksteel myr (to survive your own wraths)

Idk, just spit ballin ideas. Have fun, dude!

This is real expensive. Your early game is almost non existent and you're not running near enough mana for your curve.

Swap angels mercy for riot control. It is cheaper, has a better effect tagged on, and has the potential to gain you more life than mercy.

I would go up to 24-25 land and find things to do turns 1-4. Maybe more fog effects like holy day and dawn charm or you could give your guardian angels something to guard and toss in some soul wardens or token poopers.

Im currently trying to brainstorm an angel deck for my fiance, I will post it soon and link it here for comparison if you would like.
