Deck Description

this is one of my first EDH decks so any help would be awesome!

How to Play

the plan is to just use as many creatures as possible. ruric ability prevents you from really playing non creature spell once he is out so using your regrowth spells to get back your bloodrushed creatures before you get him out is the name of the game.
some mana acceleration in there just to help get out bigger things faster. ball lightning like creatures are in there as creature based direct damage spells

Deck discussion for Ruric Thar EDH

1. EDH decks generally needs at least a little ramp in EDH, but if you're playing big stompy stuff you need a LOT more ramp than that or everyone will just out-race you. At the very least a Sol Ring, Gruul Signet, and some of the green land-fetch spells. Me personally I'd be running Sol Ring, Gruul Signet, Darksteel Ignot, Chromatic Lantern, Worn Powerstone, Emerald Medallion, Ruby Medallion, Cooalition Relic, Gilded Lotus, and maybe even a Skyshroud Claim, Kodama's Reach and Cultivate.

I'd also probably move up to 36 lands at the very least by adding a Command Tower and Temple of the False God.

2. You have no way to deal with artifacts and enchantments. Any pillowfort enchantment is going to end the game for you (Moat, Propaganda, War Tax, Sphere of Safety) as is any kind of control (Glare of Subdual, Dovescape). You need at least 1-2 ways to deal with enchantments and artifacts, preferably ways to deal with indestructible ones. Deglamer, Fade into Antiquity, Vandalblast would be where I'd start, and maybe consider Decimate or Hull Breach as well depending on your meta.

3. You have no way to handle problem creatures. You can hit someone for 1000 damage a turn, but if they've got a Platinum Angel out it won't matter since you can't deal with it. You need 1-2 ways to take out creatures at least, if not outright wipe the board to start over. Pit Fight or Prey Upon or any red direct damage spell would work for creature removal, and red has a ton of board wipes (Bonfire of the Damned, Alpha Brawl and Disaster Radius) that will probably kill every single creature that isn't yours.

Beyond that, useful cards to consider:

Mage Slayer- Have your big beater deal damage even if it's blocked

Signal the Clans- Two mana to grab three big huge creatures and randomly get to put one in your hand? That's a pretty solid deal.

Monsoon- If anyone wants to Counterspell you they'll have to take damage to keep their islands open to do it.

Lurking Predators- Wait, so I can cast creatures for free every time someone casts a spell? Yeah, I want that.

Last, there area lot of Planeswalkers that work really well in your colors with stompy critters. I'd seriously consider all of the following:
Domri Rade, Sarkhan Vol, Xenagos, the Reveler, Gruul Caller of Beasts.

the issue with alot of your suggestions is that they arent creatures. im trying to keep my number of non creatures as low as possible since every time i cast one while my commander is out he does 6 damage to me... so basically i need to find cards that fufill all my problem areas AND are also creatures.
the reason i didnt go with any planes walkers is most of them that would work really well are really expensive to buy :D

Do you really think that's going to happen, though? Your commander costs 6 to cast, you have little ways to ramp to him, no way to protect him, and everyone sitting at the table with you is going to know that the second he hits the board 1/3 of the cards in their own decks are going to deal 6 damage each time they cast them. Do you think you're ever going to be allowed by those people to be in a position to play your commander, have him live, and then play a bunch of creatures? You wouldn't be allowed to in my meta, and we're not even that competitive. A guy plays a deck entirely based on pirates if that's any indication. I mean I could build a deck with 50 Shadowborn Apostles and 10 demons, and if I'm playing against nobody that looks like a great deck, but no actual players are going to let me do that.

YMMV, though. Good luck with it.

lol honestly im not sure! my group hasnt really started playing EDH yet but im thinking of trying to get us into it.

as for mana ramp i have 12 cards that can either tap to give me mana or let me search for land when they enter the battlefield... you dont think thats enough?

ill look into a few different ways to deal with creature/ artifacts/ enchantments. i know there are a few creatures that destroy artifacts/ enchantments/ fight when they come into play.

ill also try to include some equipment that can guard my commander.

I like the deck, one thing to add though.. you can't have druid of the anima in your deck, you can't have any card with a mana symbol, other than the symbols in your commanders casting cost.

just so you know. other than that, it's a pretty solid deck.

I thought it was only in casting cost?

you should check the rules... I can't remember how to find them, but if I'm remember the rules correctly then it would appear to be illegal in this deck.

so i check and your right but its pretty stupid if you ask me.
a birds of paradise if fine be cause it makes "any color" but druid of the anima is not because it is more restrictive?? stupid rule is stupid. if druid was made to say any color but U and B... it would be fine.
same goes for hybrid cards. MaRo is even on file as saying that hybrid should be allowed in EDH becasue the cards is supposed to be equally both colors not part each color
