Shards of Alara

The new set is coming soon for launch party. Is anyone going to attend it, and which world are you guys gonna be playing?

I'm probably going Bant. :)

Bant does indeed look impressive. My friend longing for more Mirrodin is extatic about Esper. Naya also looks awesome, and is my shard of choice from the previews.

I'm really drawn toward Grixis... I'm a big fan of U and R, and throwing in Black just makes it even more enticing.

Do you guys think they'll be including more Planeswalkers in the rest of the block?

I want to play Naya, but Shards looks pretty crappy to me. It look familiar. They reused a lot of cards (O-Ring, etc.), and shifted a lot of cards from Shard to Shard (Charms, Obeilisks)...if you guys understand that...

The set isnt that great, we have to see how "paper" is..

I disagree, randomryan. Though a lot of it is familiar ground, the new things are what makes it interesting - Exalted funkiness, colored artifacts, and farkin' huge creatures. The problem most see with Alara is that, quite frankly, it's a timmy set with small amounts of johnny. I mean, imagine pulling this off:

Turn 1: Behemoth's Herald
Turn 2: Tattermung Maniac, Elvish Hexhunter
Turn 3: Sac all creatures, Godsire
Turn 4: Thousand-Year Elixir, attack with godsire and tap for two more 8/8s

That's a delicious combination. Is it likely to happen? Probably not, but I love thinking about it.

Well this is just what we need. More artifact shenanigans. Damn you Mirrodin!

I really like the multi-colored sets though, and I'm really excited to see where they go with it in the expansions to the block. I don't think it'll be as sweet is Ravnica which is by far, my favorite set.

I don't know how the expansion would be like, but this is my prediction. 5 new tri-color types. For each main color there will be 2 of that color's enemy colors instead of the allie colors. Meaning:

Red with W & U
Black with G & W
Blue with R and G
White with R & B
Green with U & B

Just a thought that I think would be interesting to see. Just like how Shadowmoor had hybrid and Eventide had enemy colors and that worked out pretty well didn't it??

And for those Bant people, what I do wanna see is a rare or something with Exalted 2, meaning with that rare, a creature that attack alone instead of getting +1/+1 gets +2/+2 until end of turn instead. Okay I think that's enough talking:D

Well after snooping around the tubes for a bit, I've found out that the new set is called Conflux. Not sure quite what that means, but if I'm to believe a card name spoiler we're going to be seeing a printing of Nikol Bolas.... As a Planeswalker.

Spoiler source here.

I made a good bant deck, owns 1v1.
And is it just me or is memory erosion the best group game enchantment ever. i was sweeping the board and every time anyone played a spell they had to discard one of their best cards from the library. It was hilarious. granted I lost the 5 person group game, it was only because i was the target of 4 players once the enchantment was destroyed. Fun game though, real fun.

There have been inquiries about if that list for Conflux name is fake. But I think it was eventually proven to be not fake. So yeah, I'm really looking forward for a good Nicol Bolas. Even if his powers are somewhat nerfed from the Mending.

Besides, I know it won't be an overpowered card like it should be, but planeswalker cards are usually a representation of what they're willing to do for you. Hence the loyalty points. They can still do other powerful spells and such but they're only willing to do certain things for you as long as you give them loyalty.

Also, there's a name in the Conflux list that is called: Dreadwing. This name intrigues me since it's a name of one of my toons on World of Warcraft. So I'm surprised that it so happened to come up in M;tG. I don't know if Dreadwing has any lore to the name but I'm hoping it's a really cool dragon or something.

Yo lawlessurchin, I too am a fan of Bant. Care to post your decklist? I'm still kinda building mine, and looking for cards that aren't too hard on the wallet.

ya I left my decks at a friends place, i'll post it. I can tell you though, bant is pretty difficult to win, assuming you are using some sort of an exalted format, without trample or some kind of evasion. My Deck is still in the works, but I can tell you Armadillo Cloak has definitely saved my butt.
By in the works, i mean I am still experimenting with cards, looking for older sorceries, instants, and enchantments that help. I even went so far as to try red cards such as rogue kavu and reckless ogre. Decent, but annoying to pull off efficiently while making sure everything runs smoothly
