Break the War-Pride

In my opinion, one of the most overpowered and under-rated creatures in the game is Nacatl War-Pride. I've loved it since its spoiler for Futuresight. Ever since then I've wanted to build a deck that could truly take full advantage of its insane ability. To that end, I'm happy to announce that my Nacatl War-Pride deck has made the front page.

That begin said, my deck certainly isn't the be-all and end-all of the potential ways to use this card. You can look at the sideboard to get ideas of what other cards synergise well with it, and I'm sure you can come up with many ideas of your own.

My deck is here:

How would you take advantage of Nacatl's amazing and unique ability?

While building your decks, make sure to remember Nacatl's vulnerability. It is a 6 CMC 3/3 creature. It doesn't usually get into play very fast, and if it does you still need to get it through to the attack phase in order for it to work. This is especially tricky because by the time you have the mana to hard cast it, your opponents generally have the mana to deal with it.

It is a favorite target for blue counterspells, black creature removal, white exiling, and is even weak enough that many small red direct damage spells with smoke it! Thus you will have to build methods into your decks for dealing with its vulnerabilities, otherwise your decks are likely to fall apart when playtested in a practical environment.

Remember, protective artifact equipments and enchantment auras can't outrace instants!

How will you break the War Pride?

Back in 2009 I made a deck that multiplied the Nacatl War-Pride tokens:

Though I now have different ideas on how I'd use Nacatl War-Pride. Mite post a different deck later, possibly using cards that grant additional attacks like Relentless Assault, Waves of Aggression, etc.

Went to go post the two decks I made centered around this guy over a year ago when Ded and I were on a Nacatl-kick, and saw that you already found them, ha. They don't break Nacatl, by any means, but they're unconventional, to say the least. Here they are for anyone who is curious:

Yeah, I think I've already seen all your guys decks so far. Be careful about how you use Relentless Assault and Waves of Aggression, even if you untap them and they have already attacked, the Nacatl tokes are still summoning sick and will need to be hasty in order to attack again!

Ya, the summoning sickness is a problem, that's why I've now taken a different approach:

This one seems a little all over the place and is almost useless without the War-Pride, but I think it'll be a good start that I can improve on. But I must thank you for reminding me how much I like the card :p

Another card I'd love to see combo'd with Nacatl War-Pride is Sleep. Can you say; "Goodnight" ?

This should get them out quicker and be able to attack and kill or lock the board earlier than normal without them being able to reply due to city of solitude.

If they tap their lands to keep them alive, they die to combat damage. If they block, their lands and creatures are all toast and they may still die.
