Ability to lower X mana cost?

Do these two abilities work?

"Creature spells you cast cost {1} less to cast for each +1/+1 counter on Animar."

"Apocalypse Hydra comes into play with X +1/+1 counters on it. If X is 5 or more, it comes into play with an additional X +1/+1 counters on it."

Yes. You define x when you put the spell on the stack. Then you make payments adjusted by any taxes or cost reducers.

Cost reduction of spells was just answered in another thread on MTG Rulings & Questions and is still on top. Might be a good idea to read the forums for a bit.

and yes the abilities work :)
