Trample and Fog bank

Fog bank has an ability: prevent all combat damage that would be dealt to and dealt by fog bank (it also would work with indestructible)
www.mtgvault.com/card/fog-bank/M13/

Trample is worded: If this creature would assign enough damage to its blockers to destroy them, you may have it assign the rest of its damage to defending player or plainswalker.

Because of the wording, does excess damage when blocked by fog bank or indestructible get through?

If the trample creature does say 8 damage per attack if it would be blocked by Fog Bank, the damage would be prevented so trample damage would be 0 cause no damage was dealt.

I'm not sure if they meant it that way, but the way they're worded, I wasn't sure so I wanted to ask. That makes fog bank the absolute most annoying card in magic.
