Deck Description

I made a Modern Dark Zoo check it out, http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=224112 Ok I FINALLY got to play test this for 8 hours yesterday. I tried the burnwilliow/punishing fire combo, its not fast enough for this deck, So i took the combo out and put it back to what i had with the steppe lynx. It was working great, but more times then less my steppe lynx was a dead card on the table, so i switched it back to loam lion and i got more use out of that spot. 1 thing tricky about this deck is ill burn myself to 10 life in no time, search for your mana wisely. Oh and I also want to try dark zoo with Dark confidant, I might be making that in the next couple of weeks, Ill keep you guys updated.

I made a Dark Zoo check it out, Dark Confidant gives me so much more after turn 4. Mana base isnt all the way thought through, and spells arent either, also had an idea of throwing in Bloodghasts. Let me know. Here is a link to it http://www.mtgvault.com/ViewDeck.aspx?DeckID=224112

Go with Lion. I feel you have a few too many dudes... Drop either lion or ape for more burn. Is chain lightning legal?

with the knight of the reliquary and the 10 fetch lands, go with the lynx.. getting it to a 6/7 isnt unheard of at all, and its nearly a 4/5 every turn..

ya that was what i was thinking. And no chain lightning is not legal in modern.. sadly Any other changes you guys can think of?

One of the best Naya Zoo decks I have seen. I think that the Landfall focus gives it a lot more synergy than other similar builds, such as ones that run Grim Lavamancer. I like this deck a lot.

I feel that Harrow would be an excellent edition to this deck. double the land drop and your knight gets bigger.

Meh... Shock? I feel you really want another burn spell...

In legacy I was playing around with a toolbox Zoo with 3 GSZ, 1 Teeg, 2 Pridemage, and a Scavanging Ooze

What do you guys think of my Teachings deck? Last deck, last page :)

I really like this deck a lot but I do have a suggestion. I think you need to up your card advantage. This deck will come right out of the gate very quickly; which is great, but when you play out your hand, by turn 4 you will start start to run out of steam. If you haven't overwhelmed them in the beginning they will catch up and might out run you. Or if you get hit with a board wipe it will be hard to recover.

I think you should cut 4 Kird Ape and replace them with Ranger of Eos. Thats 3 creatures for just 4 mana.
Also I understand putting lynx in here. He can get nasty if you play a Verdant Catacombs after you have 1 or 2 Knight of the Reliquary in play, potentially making him a 6/7 or 8/9. The problem is if you can't get that to time out right he is just a 0/1 or more often a 2/3 or maybe a 4/5.
Personally though I would rather run Figure of Destiny because he will be a more consistent creature and quickly becomes a persistent 4/4 and on top of that he can become a 8/8 flying beater that wins games.

Either way good luck with the deck!

I enjoy Zoo, but I feel the PunishinGrove engine is too big to miss. It with Kavu Predator is just too much.

I agree with Kaim. Zoo with punishing/grove combo seems like it will dominate modern for the time being. Probably a good ideal to add that into this zoo.

I'm wondering about Genesis Wave here...the GGG in the cost could be a pain, but your mana costs are all really low...

Making this deck I had in mind of putting the combo in, dont even have this deck all the way together yet. Once i play test it some, ill think about putting in some ranger of eos, or the combo.

Imo, it's just not Zoo without Kird Ape, Wild Nacatl, and Loam Lion ;) It's pretty generic but super efficient and does it all by itself, as opposed to Burnwillows combo. With KotR, it's still worth it to run 1x or 2x Burnwillows and Punishing Fire, only because it's reliable recursive damage to control the board. Lightning Bolt / Helix and Path are great control as well, but once you fire them off that's it. The power from Punishing Fire is that, expensive as it may be to maintain, it IS maintainable and extends your control over the board to more and bigger threats.. that can win you the game!

One thing I've tried out to good success is running 1x Green Sun's Zenith, either mainboard or sideboard, and if you like an extra 1x in the side. The reason for this is because it allows me to a) tutor out Pridemage when I need to remove an artifact or enchantment, b) fetch a KotR for mana fixing and a beater, or c) fetch a goyf for a beater. In my build it also allows me to fetch a Bloodbraid Elf, which I've found to be amazingly effective for her cost.. there's almost no dead cascade in naya zoo.

And last, another card that you don't see too often, but works well in zoo depending on the build, is Sigil Captain. At the very least he turns mid-late game Apes/Nacatl/Lions into 3/3's before their +x/+y abilities happen.

I don't know why but I always like a little more burn in my decks, you probably won't like it but maybe chain of plasma? Just for the finishing blow and possible chain, or char always a favorite of mine. =) just cut the lion for them, and maybe wooded foothills instead of the verdant catacombs

Those cards aren't legal in Modern - it's all 8th Edition and forward (the original Mirrodin being the 1st actual expansion set legal in it).

Wow! This list is pretty insane and incredibly consistent looking. I personally would probably cut one of the KotR, 1 or 2 Pridemage, and 1-2 other guys for 3-4 Green Sun's Zenith. It's just handy to give you so many different targets and it's always exactly what you want it to be when you need it (ok, not Goblin Guide I suppose and Loam Lion and Kird Ape are just usually worse than Nacatl anyway). GSZ is just a preference thing, though. You have a sick list. Just throwing it out as an option.
1 other idea that might be worth testing or considering is just a 1-of Mutavault/Tectonic Edge or some other form of utility land than you can occasionally fetch out with KotR in a pinch. Just an idea. Good luck with your deck. Looks super fast and fun!
