Deck Description

This was my very first deck I ever made by myself and as the new expansions popped up I have updated accordingly piece by piece. Needed some help at first but made some changes and like what I have so far.

Made more changes, lol and very happy with the result, this deck almost never loses now and I'm happy to say that it is now my best deck out of all my others.

Deck discussion for Pretty, lovely vampires, FIXED

If i were you i would remove something for Stromkirk Captain, he can greatly strengthen a group of vampires, maybe drop the archwing dragons for a couple copies. Cards to proliferate after using urge to feed help a lot as well, like spread the sickness or Vicious Bite.

Maybe my vampire deck can give you a few ideas:

I'm trying to find ways to improve it.

I also have a Vamp deck, feel free to peek, and taking it into considering yours; I'd say a major weakness you have is a lack of cheap creatures. Lack of kill spells to frustrate your opponent potentially hurts you too. I'd also suggest narrowing down what creatures you have, and pumping their numbers up. One Drops like Pulse Tracker and Stromkirk Noble are nice for any early start.

Basically; I'd suggest focusing on cheaper creatures that can be pumped quickly (As mentioned, Stromkirk Captain is spectacular.) and the ability to stonewall your opponent through more spells like Go for the Throat, Feast of Blood, etc. Bump in the Night is a nice direct damage spell too.

Oh, Blightning and Terminate are pretty solid as well, considering your alignment, and as fun as Captivating Vampire sounds; I've usually found by the time I have enough Vampires to use his ability, I've already won the game. Markov Warlord is overpriced, considering with +1/+1 buffs there are many vamps that are stronger than he is by the time you can afford him, the Dragon kind of defeats you theme and doesn't receive any perks from other vampires, and I'd definitely advise Bloodline Keeper over pretty much any vamp that costs four mana, simply due to his abilities being near broken.

Hi,

First, your main priority is to reduce your mana curve. Anowon, Havengul, Heirs of Stromkirk and Spread the Sickness are too slow. The only good 4cmc in a deck like your, is the Vampire Nocturnus, and it's usually played with Dark Ritual and/or Aether Vial.

Second, you need to choose 1-2 vampire lord. Stromkirk Captain and Vampire Nocturnus are the best. 4 of each can't be a bad choice. Captiving Vampire and Adaptive Automaton are budget choice.

Also, you can't really play a R/B vampire deck without Vampiric Fury. This card alone can finish a game.

Stromkirk Noble ( turn 1 ) + Furor of the bitten or Predator's Gambit ( turn 2 ) is a potential Tarmogoyf !!!

Reduce your lands to 19-20, with cards like Dragonskull Summit and Blackcleave Cliffs, mana won't be a problem and you won't have to mulligan often.

Try to have between 24-28 creatures to maximize the benefits from vampires lords in general and Vampiric Fury.

This is very good advice, but I have a question for some of your comments, is vampire nocturnus worth it since the ability is only valid when there is a black card on top of the deck when this is a duel colored deck? plus its the most expensive card out of all the others suggested.

Nocturnus is definitely a choice, as most of you spells are black, so his buff should happen often. I prefer Bloodline Keeper due to not being as color dependent, and the ability to create more suicide attackers, plus his Lord of Lineage buff is welcome. But I think he deserves more of a spot than Spread the sickness and Heirs to Stromkirk.

Anowon has a nice ability, but he's a touch expensive, and if you happen to fight another vampire deck, he's outclassed by others easily.

The lack of Stromkirk Captain is still a little troubling; only because he's more effective than Captivating Vampire in terms of the buff he gives. Havengul Vamp and Falkenrath Exterminator pair well together, though they almost require Rakish Heir to accumulate counters quickly enough to capitalize on Exterminator's ability. All three of them are red though, which can put you at odds with Nocturnus.

Yeah, Nocturnus is expensive, and because of his ability, you can't splash too much Red. And if some cards help to increase the odds, like Sensei's Divining Top or Volrath's Stronghole, their are all expensive too. Unless you play with Viscera Seer, and then maybe you'll want to add few Bloodghasts and Kalastria Highborn.

So...yes Nocturnus can be a real killer, but a costly one :) I like the *gambling* part that's why I play with this vampire. Otherwise, CORRBentOrgy suggestion is fine too, and less costly. Your choice.

Anyway, 4 Stromkirk Captain and 4 Vampiric Fury, are in my opinion, a safe value for any R/B budget vamp deck.
