Deck Description

This is a deck I built for a new player. The main objectives were that it be playable by a rookie, and dirt cheap.

How to Play

Very creature-oriented, but not designed to leap immediately onto the attack.
Since our Commander games tend to have a build-up and trash-talk phase before serious carnage begins, it will have some time for +1/+1 counters to accumulate.

Deck discussion for Dromoka EDH - Budget

I'll keep any suggestions to sub-dollar cards:

Deck needs more draw or you'll be in top-deck mode by turn four. Soul's Majesty, Hunter's Prowess and Hunter's Insight are all fantastic in Dromoka since they can't be countered or the creature removed when cast during your turn. I'd find room for all three.

I'd get some more ramp in there. You've got a ton of dudes and I would imagine you want to cast them asap. Nature's Lore, Cultivate, Explosive Vegetatiopn, Kodama's Reach, Rampant Growth, Skyshroud Claim, Selesnya Signet and Talisman of Unity are all nice ramp cards and all should be like a quarter.

I'd find room for some more removal. Fate Forgotten is good which you have, but you could easily slot in Unravel the Aether, Swords to Plowshares, Banishing Light and Return to Dust.

IMO most decks need at least a board wipe or two for when someone else gets way ahead. Day of Judgement is dirt cheap, and the instant speed option on Rout or Fated Retribution is nice.

All sound advice.

- For card draw I added Soul's Majesty and Hunter's Insight.
- For ramp I added Explosive Vegetation.
- For removal, after some deliberation, I added Puppet Strings. While it's not actually removal, I like that it can be reused each turn for either attack or defense.
- Since +1/+1 counter decks have a rough time recovering from board wipes, I didn't add one. I'll let the deck's owner decide how he wants to handle "the nuclear option". Maybe invest in some totem armor auras to insure his favorite creatures survive with their counters intact.

- I got rid the Angel's Feather and Wurm's Tooth. Although I like this sort of card for multi-player, I think the Abzan Battle Priest and his fellow Lifelink critters can probably handle life gain without the help.
- I dumped the Dromoka Captain since I fear he might consume more +1/+1 counters than he manages to generate in a Commander game.
- I removed Abzan Advantage for being of dubious utility.
